Heraldic Colors

The first thing to remember when designing your heraldry is that the colors cannot be anything already used (both canonically and in whatever roleplay club you're creating it for). So, for example you know that Benden Hold has purple and red as it's colors, when you create your heraldry do not use the combination of red and purple.

The other major thing to keep in mind is that the colors need to be distinct. They go on the rank cords and are used for identification. Dark blue and dark purple aren't very clear, but blue and orange are.  For example:

Bad   Good   Good
Blue
Purple

If it helps, use a color wheel.  Colors on opposite sides of the wheel will provide the best contrast, like the blue orange and aqua/maroon combinations above.  Also, combinations in which one color is lighter and another darker also work well.

Note: Use green sparingly. To the Pernese, green symbolizes danger.
