The sampling of articles took place during the following days of 1998:

It should be noted that not every one of the newspapers was analysed for each of these days.
The total number of articles (or unaccompanied photos) analyzed was 1403.
With regard to the calculation of percentages and other figures, it should be noted that documents may be counted 'twice'. For example, an article that discusses both Canadian and international material will be included in both the 'international' and the 'Canadian' counts. Therefore, there are several instances where total percentage counts may in fact add up to figures in excess of 100%.
