*Weather

Many of you will be adjusting to a significant time change once you have arrived. To make things easier you can check accurate local times anywhere in the world using Weather in Japan varies greatly from season to season. It can get brutally hot or cold in some areas and no matter where you are, you will want to watch out for tsuyu (“The Rainy Season”). You can find the latest weather forecast for Japan, as well as anywhere else in the world by visiting .

*Earthquakes

Earthquakes are relatively common and you will likely experience at least one while you are in Japan. For large quakes, like most other major emergencies, a warning will be sent out on the TV, radio and by vehicles that cruise through your neighborhood making the announcements. Each area has an emergency evacuation area where you can go in the event of a really bad quake. Most of the earthquakes will not be strong enough, or close enough, to do more than knock over some stuff in your apartment, but it is always best to be prepared and know where your nearest Evacuation Area ( hinan basho ) is. A detailed manual for emergency procedures can be found
