| Part of the bettas unique and beautiful appearence is the wide array of tail shapes that a betta may posess. TYPES OF TAILS Short Tail/Plakat - The wild type which all tails decended from. The short tailed betta often has a beautiful wide spread. Veil Tail - The first tail type developed by breeders. The Veil Tail is perhaps the longest tail type but lacks widness in spread. The rays are not straight, they are long and round together at the tip of cadual. Most pet store bettas are veils. Pften have whispy dorsel fins. Spade Tail - Similiar to a Veil tail but come to a sharp point at the bottom of the cadual like a Spade. Often have whispy dorsel fins. Pin Tail - A rounder, more fanned shape, rays come to a point in the mittle of the cadual. Looks like a drop of paint which has had a pin dragged through the middle of it. Delta - Wider than a veil tail. The rays are very straight. The delta ranges from anything wider than a veil, but not as wide as a halfmoon. May be a Dt. Round Tail - As it sounds, the tail is round in appearance. Not as long as the deltas. Halfmoon - A tail with straight rays and cadual edges with a spawn of 180 degrees. Have full anal and dorsel fins and are found in the Dt variety as well. Double Tail/Dt - Cadual splits to create two tail lobes. A deep split to the body with even lobes is desiriable. Dts have very high quality anal and dorsel fins and are often used to improve the lines of St bettas. They can be short in the back and this needs to be carefully assessed before breeding. |
