What's in a Name?
My domain name, Coast-Range.com comes from the fact that I live in the Coast Range of California.
This green wrinkle in the earth's crust follows the coastline through Northern California and up into the Pacific Northwest.
Near Willits, where I live, the Coast Redwood trees are the most striking feature, but we have lots of deer, a few bears,
and even an occasional mountain lion to keep it interesting. It is wet in the winter, not too hot in the summer,
and close enough to the Pacific Ocean to hold my attention. I guess by now, the Coast Range is my home.
Is There a Point?
I've had (more than one) friend say that they can't imagine the need to have a "web page."
The short answer to the question of "why do I?" is, I guess, because I can.
Additionally, I can imagine a few semi-practical uses for the site. If nothing else,
it provides a way for me to put part of my hard drive on the internet where I can access it from anywhere I might be.
For instance, while traveling, I have often wished I had my bookmarks list with me, or that I knew whether I already
have a particular booklet in my collection of National Park brochures.
Couldn't I just take a copy of that information with me, on paper, for instance?
Probably, but where's the fun in that?, and besides, I always forget.
What's Coming
A web site, like any programming project, is never really finished. I loaded this one in anyway.
It is, I guess, a new hobby.
Hmmm...now that I think of it, I don't really need a new hobby, but I will, no doubt, make a little time to keep fooling with it to make it work
better and do more stuff. We will see.
