Anna's Pages

Anna shared our house with us a while ago.
Things were often lively when she was home, because, as you can see from the photo, Anna doesn't hold still very often.
She also burst into song at various times which we nearly always enjoyed.

  Grace's Dream
Grace's first dream once came true
but time took it away.
Remnants remain and
Hope flickers that it might be once again the same.

to dance pas de deux on center stage
a pointe or two to make
to choreograph and move
the waves in a swan's wake
to dash at the stroke of twelve
to have lovers dance 'til death or dawn
to rage in the red and be cut off short
Dancing, forever is in Grace's song.

Anna Leaping Emotion in motion is a favored cliche.
Though young, Grace understood pointe's way.

the rustle of costumes, a lengthened tutu,
silhouettes satin gowned, mirrors abound,
baby grand piano, echoing room,
blunt, resonant, pointe sound.

From academy to stage Grace went
the feeling begotten was worth the energy spent.

Steaming lights, heavy curtain, orchestra pit
audience applaud, curtain rising,
accomplishment's sweat is what Grace prizes.

Grace loved stage and Grace loved pointe,
but necessity could not be coined.
The dream that was reality vanished
leaving Grace broken and famished
from lack of limelight, sweat, and pointe.
All grown up, yet all grown in.
The yearning struggling within
to be released in Phoenix fury
that flame of talent Grace was forced to bury.

Pointe forgotten, reason lost,
regaining momentum, awing Baryshnikov.
But alas, ailment prevents Grace the chance
to grace on pointe and ballet dance.
