Alighting on a Shore Alluring
A Seagull preens and kries,
Quartz sand warm and cool in the same step
To be erased by the tide
Until the sun spirals away
And the seaweed frames the brine,
She flicks and flirts
with the seaspray, rays and shells.
The sea oats rustle and the Gulf waves
Sing restless peace.
A sister shore too cold
To grace above the percussive Pacific
Waits to chime
As Luna choreographs the rise and fall
Against the light and shadows.
Sea sounds and mirages spill over each other
In cannon amid the fog or haze.
How far is this conch from its distant depths
To evoke this breath of life
When the green flash of the setting sun
Trembles the sun-breathing earth
While the sea turtles greet the swell
And the seagull bids good-dusk?
