Wiesbaden & Rock Am Ring Fesitval in Nurburgring, Germany

Quote of the Day: "Germany is my bathroom."

We visited Wiesbaden (west of Frankfurt), which is where Eric lived for a couple of years while his father was in the army. Eric told us some funny stories of his (mis)adventures as a youngster in Germany. For those of you that think Eric is a quiet guy who never causes any trouble, you might want to rethink it. Care to throw some apples at poor innocent elderly Germans, Eric??? :) I'm sure the Wiesbaden Police have a file on Eric...

The Rock Am Ring fesitval was at a grand prix racetrack out in the middle of nowhere. We obviously took the long way into Nurburgring and finally get to the place and guess what, no parking lots...big surprise. This was another festival where people had tents, so many of the concert goers were already here. Since this was the third and final day of this festival, it made finding a parking spot very difficult. Add the fact that is was pouring rain, this day was beginning to suck! I dropped Eric and Gooch off at the gate and I eventually found a parking spot 30 minutes walking distance away. All three of us were in really rotten moods because of the rain, parking, etc. Fortunately, we got tickets to the VIP section. That cheered us up real quick. As you can probably guess, the VIP section at a huge MTV sponsored festival was quite crowded, though I didn't see any famous people...except for the guy from the VH-1 Fan Club show...;)(Note to self: Why doesn't MTV put on huge ass festivals in the States?)

The beers in the VIP Section cost only $2 Euros which made me feel a little better. Plus the rain finally stopped and the weather turned out to be pretty good. We had plenty of time to kill, so we walked around to some of the food and merchandise vendors...Germans sell some strange shit at concerts...Fish sandwiches again, UGH...drunk Germans everywhere...one cool thing however, they sold mixed drinks (very good idea!)

The beers were flowing once again, and I got a little drunk. We watched Deftones a little bit. I'm a big fan of them, but they really don't sound that great in huge venues like Rock Am Ring which by our estimates had well over 100,000 people. Deftones should probably stick with smaller venues. Marylin Manson didn't impress us at all. once again, Metallica put on a great show. They started with Blackened, No Remorse, Harvester, Sanitarium , Bellz, etc. One thing I did notice was that they ended the show with Sandman for the 3rd straight show - not a fan of ending with Sandman. Also, they haven't been playing any cover songs on this tour which for Metallica is kinda weird.

After the show, it was on to Cologne which was (thank GOD!) only an hour away...

...Oh yah, June 8th was my 30th Birthday...

Happy Birthday Old Man
