In February 1988, a select group of concientious men and women, concerned about the drastic 85% decline over 60 years in the population of the ring-neck in Jefferson County, established this local chapter of Pheasants Forever.
Chapter History
In our first year, we planted19 food plots and purchased 10 acres of standing corn next to Jefferson Marsh, which we left unharvested for wintering wildlife. Hosting a successful banquet in October of 1988 gave us the funds necessary for increasing our efforts three times over. In the spring of 1989, we were able to establish 186 acres in feeding plots and 6 acres in switchgrass for nesting habitat. Since that time our chapter has continued moving forward with leaps and bounds as we continue providing additional habitat for wildlife of all kinds.
Attention Landowners!!!
This Years Officers
We would like to encourage you to establish food plots to enhance wildlife habitat. Many of the CP practices in the Conservation Reserve Program can be used in conjuntion with CP 12 Wildlife Food Plots. Food plots must range in size between a minimum of 0.25 acres and a maximum of 5 acres, and may constitute no more than 10% of the total CRP acreage.
Our chapter's food plot mix is available every spring. For more information please feel free to contact us.
