Sleeping Beauty
Princess Aurora Page 1
Shortly before Merryweather was to give her gift to the infant Princess, Maleficent showed up uninvited.  Out of spite and jealousy, she prounounced a frightful curse upon the child.  While she would indeed grow in grace and beauty, beloved by all who know her, before her 16th birthday Aurora would prick her finger on the spindle of a spinning wheel and die.  While Merryweather was able to undo some of Maleficent's curse, it was decided that the 3 good fairies would disguise themselves as peasant women and raise the Princess as a peasant girl far away from Maleficent's reach.  Because of her lips as red as the rose, the girl became known as Briar Rose.  Her angelic voice could be heard throughout the forest as she sang of her hopes and dreams of some day falling in love with her dream prince.
As the handsome stranger and the beautiful peasant girl danced in the forest, they fell in love.  Shy and a little scared at first, the peasant girl soon felt safe in the arms of the young man and together they looked out upon a distant castle, the prince in disguise ready to break off his wedding to the princess he was betrothed to for this sweet peasant girl, while the kind peasant maid rested comfortably in his arms for she had found love.
I wonder, I wonder,
I wonder why each little bird
Has a someone to sing to
Sweet things to
A (happy) little love melody?
I wonder, I wonder,
If my heart keeps singing
Will my song to winging
To someone who'll find me
And bring back a love song to me?
I know you.
I walked with you once upon a dream.
I know you
The gleam in your eyes is so familiar a gleam
Yet I know it's true
That visions are seldom all they seem,
But if I know you, I know what you'll do
You'll love me at once,
The way you did
Once Upon a Dream.
Excited, Briar Rose returned to the woodcutters cottage where she lived with her aunts.  She walked in to find a birthday cake with 16 candles on it waiting for her and the most beautiful blue dress she had ever seen in her life.  Happy about the beautiful dress and the boy she had just met, she told her aunts that she had fallen in love.  To Rose's surprise, Flora, Fauna, and Merryweather did not share her joy and told her she could never see the young man again for the time had come for her to know the truth.  She had already been betrothed to Prince Philip.  The young girl tried to comprehend what she had just been told.  "But, that's impossible.  In order to marry a Prince, I'd have to be. . ."  Merryweather finished her thought.  "A Princess.  And you are, the Princess Aurora."  Crushed and heartbroken, Aurora went up to her bed and cried.  The happiest day of her life had become a nightmare.  Nevertheless, when the time came, Aurora traded her peasant dress for a dress fit for a Princess and went to meet her parents and the Prince she was betrothed to. . .
