England will always be special to me. My husband and I lived there for several years in the late 1960s. We saw many of the major tourist sights but some of our special memories are walking along the roads and lanes, looking over garden fences and enjoying the flowers and homes...a feast for our eyes.
I have lost count of how many times we have been to the Stratford-upon-Avon area --- Shakespeare country. This cottage was the home of Shakespeare's wife, Anne Hathaway. It is located about one mile from the center of Stratford-upon-Avon and well worth a visit. The interior lets you step into the 16th century, and the beautiful garden is a treasure.

Alpine Windows (Swiss window did not scan in well but it is a match to the Austrian painting)
I love to photograph window boxes bursting with flowers -- and beautiful windows are everywhere in Europe. The oldest worn building is a marvelous sight when all its windows are decorated with flower filled windowboxes.

Pretty doorways, roses, the gentle sound of milk bottles lightly hitting each other when delivered to your door, biking for a few groceries......all good memories of our time in England. I painted these two from photos taken by a friend, Nancy Heist Falciola. I was excited to see such beautiful photos and Nancy kindly gave me permission to paint them and share them with you.
Copies of these paintings are available. See page 3.
