OPENING DOORS
Classrooms have changed. The same teachers will share the same students over the same block of time in the same part of the building. Bells no longer signal the end of classes. In the 7th and 8th grades, there is flexible block scheduling which allows for varied learning activities, grouping and regrouping students for instructions, and common planning time for teachers.
There is an innovate team-teaching approach where teams of regular and special education teachers meet the needs of all students.
Every other Friday is called Maroon & Gold days. On these days, there is a 1:15 dismissal form regular classes. All students will remain on campus and participate in Maroon/Gold Day. On certain Fridays, (check monthly calendars) students who are involved in extracurricular activities & intramurals will remain for club meetings & rehearsals, project work, etc. All students will participate in at least three activities which they will choose.
On the other Fridays, students go home at 1:15. Teachers remain at school to up-grade their skills and knowledge either through interpersonal staff development with their teams or with experts who will present seminars on selected topics. Ninth graders have three 90 minute classes on alternating days for a two week cycle. An example: on Monday, a student may have English, math, study skills. On Tuesday, the student may have science, civics, and world geography. On Wednesday, he/she again has English, math, study skills. Thursday, science, civics, and world geography. This continues in a cycle for the entire year. Every two weeks, the cycle repeats itself. Every day, the student will have two 50 minute elective classes. There will be an advisor/advisee program where all students will have the opportunity to meet with their advisors each day. This program allows students a chance to develop a close, positive rapport with an adult to whom they can turn for guidance, support, and advice. This is separate from homeroom.

The Advisory Program

To reduce feelings of isolation and alienation through a social bonding process Goal: Students will learn to accept responsibility and all academic and behavioral choices. Students will learn skills to enhance self-awareness, promote positive peer relationships, and increase academic achievements.
Our advisory program is called DOG DAZE . Each day, for twenty minutes, students along with their advisors will be involved in meaningful activities, designed to increase emotional intelligence.

ABSENCE PROCEDURES FOR L.C.O. JR. HIGH
Students will report to the front office and be signed out by their parents or a *pre-approved responsible party. Students will report to each teacher whose class they will miss and have those teachers sign their multi-purpose form for approved dismissal.
When the student returns to school, he/she will return the completed multi-purpose form, with excuse (parental note, doctor note, or other approved excuse) attached or written on the form, to the front office. After the office has determined whether the absence is excused or unexcused, the form shall then be signed by teachers again so teachers will know the disposition of the absence.
*Pre-approved means listed on Emergency card in front office. See Emergency Card
Table of Contents
When a student returns to school after one or more days absent, he/she must pick up a multi-purpose form in the front office and have it completed by their parent. The completed form is returned to the front office so that the validity of the excuse can be determined by front office personnel.
After evaluation of the excuse is completed, the student is given the completed form to be signed by teachers. The completely signed form is returned to the front office so that changes may be made in the computer to the students absence record. THE STUDENT MUST RETURN THE SIGNED FORM TO THE FRONT OFFICE OR CHANGES WILL NOT BE MADE TO THE COMPUTER RECORD

When a student is tardy to school, the student shall report to the front office to pick up an admit form. All multi purpose forms must be returned to the front office after teachers have signed them. If the forms are not returned to the office the students absence record cannot be correctly updated.
