This program was developed to give every student an opportunity to have a relationship with at least one adult in an advisory role that will promote interaction discussions and activities centered on personal, social and academic development.
It is a social bonding process to reduce student feelings of isolation and alienation.
An advisory committee was set up to assemble different activities and materials for use with the advisory groups. Each advisory leader was given a binder filled with activities with suggestion on what to do on each day of the week. When teachers meet in their communities, they decide what activity will be done for the week. Sometimes there are school wide activities where all of the advisory groups participate. Competition is kept within communities.
This committee is made up of teachers, parents, the guidance counselor, and the assistant principal. They worked over the summer to get the binders ready for the beginning of school this term (98-99) The members of the advisory committee are: Sandra Duet, Doug Triche, Kristy Gisclair, Michelle Plaisance, Malinda Rome, Karen Gisclair, Mike Lefort, Anna Marie Adams, and John Rabb.
Our first activity was the LCO Quiz Bowl. This is a double elimination match. Competition is within each grade. The first game lasted until mid-term. The second game should end with the school year. To see the results of this activity, CLICK HERE
Superdog Day was also done from the advisory groups. This activity was in November. To see the results, CLICK HERE. To see candid photos, CLICK HERE
We also had an airplane building contest. Each grade reported to the gym on different days. Each person in the class tried to get their airplane in a hula hoop taped to the floor. Sounds easy but it is NOT! Only 2 students in the 7th grade did it and 1 in the 8th grade. When this was over, one person from each dog daze went up to see who could fly their plane the furthest. The students had a good time making and testing the planes in their Dog Daze and they had a good time throwing them in competition. To see some pictures from this activity, CLICK HERE.
An activity that happens quiet frequently is "Oreo Sweepstakes". The students are given 3 facts about one of the faculty members. These facts were submitted the first week of school. The students use that information to guess who the teacher is. The winning advisory group get a bag of Oreo cookies.
