Our Hillel is located by the UWM campus, and we have the majority of our students here. Almost all of our programs are at this campus. We estimate that there are 500-600 Jewish students at UWM. It is the second largest campus of the University of Wisconsin System (after Madison) with nearly 26,000 students. It is located on Milwaukee’s East Side, in an attractive residential neighborhood, just several blocks from Lake Michigan. It is primarily a commuter school, with only about fifteen percent of undergraduate students living on campus.

Campus Contacts

Here are some helpful campus contacts:

Student Organization Advising and Resources (SOAR) Office
350 Union Building
Phone: 414-229-5780

Contact: Erin Pierce

One of the most important functions of the SOAR office is to oversee Student Government funding to university student groups (including Hillel). Whenever we have programs on campus that are co-sponsored by the Student Government, we have to apply and follow up through them.

Union Publicity Office
W325 Union Building
Phone: 414-229-5538

We need to place orders for Union banners here. Also, they take three copies of fliers to hang on the Union bulletin boards.

Union Reservations and Event Planning Services Office
119 Union Building
Phone: 414-229-4828

Contact: Mr. Brandon James (for room setup and audiovisual equipment)

This office reserves tables and rooms for programs. A student officer has to make the reservations.

Center for Jewish Studies
Curtin Hall 905
Phone: 414-229-6121

Contact: Dr. Chava Frankfort-Nachmias, Center Director

The center provides special lectures, forms, programming, and other activities to promote and supplement Jewish Studies, in the widest sense, at UWM.

University Ministry is very helpful and supportive of programs for Jewish students on campus. They are also very happy to co-sponsor any of the programs that might be better with an inter-faith spin.

Event Management Office
245 Alumni Memorial Union
Phone: 414-288-7202

To reserve a table or a room at the Union for an event, we need to contact this office first. They can also reserve a classroom auditorium for a lecture.

Office of Student Development

Phone: 414-288-7205

Once we reserve a room with the Events Management Office, we have to register the program with the Office of Student Development (OSD). They also approve fliers and any other publicity materials.

Office of Residence Life
203 Carpenter Tower
Phone: 414-288-7208

They need to approve fliers before they can be distributed to the RAs in the residence halls. After they approve the fliers we can then make enough copies for the RAs and bring the fliers back to this office.
