GuRyongSan, Seoul:
In Dec1997, after a snowfall, I was lucky to be taken to a small hiking trail in Southeastern Seoul by Anthony Lee(one of my students).  GuRyongsan means "Nine-Dragon-Mountain".
I loved this small temple we came upon on the trail...
Even though it is small, this temple had artwork depicting cranes, and there were shiny gold-plated balls in the mouths of the dragons.  The lion statues were nice, and the colours painted underneath the eaves were so bright.  Children played quietly with their parents.  It had a great atmosphere.
This is either left over from the war or is used during soldier's training.  Many soldiers train on mountains and hiking trails now, and you see some sometimes (I saw them training at NamhansanSong).
Kangnam area.......the lumps of earth are where people are buried.  All cemeteries and tombs have mounds of earth above the burial spots.  You see them all over Korea on mountains and hills, especially in the countryside.
I found the trail extremely slippery.
There were black squirrels and magpies in these trees.
