Secretary General
Biography Born in Oradea, a city in S�mea province in 1447, Onufrij Danilenko grew up in a middle-class area and received the best education his parents could afford, majoring at Giron University in Economics and minoring in Political Science. Danilenko's final thesis for his economics degree was on the growing dependency on foreign economic relations for domestic stability. Danilenko became a member of the Royal S�mean Duma in 1477 at the age of 30, and served as a member for Oradea South for 18 years until 1495 when he became a minister of the Royal Court in charge of Rural Economic Development. In 1500 when the Communists took control of the nation, Danilenko was imprisoned. He became one of the numerous subjects of torture of the regime, though was treated much better than some of the more unfortunate victims. A monarchist, he considered running in support of that party, but his acute consciousness of the economic divisions between rural and urban life caused him to run Socialist. He was again elected to represent Oradea South, and became a member of the cabinet as Minister of International Trade. In 1504, following extensive negotiations on the creation of the World Economic Organization, he was unanimously supported as the organizations first Secretary General, and stepped down from his cabinet position and national life for a more international role.
