28 Weeks
October 12, 2001

I went to see Dr A today.  He was actually at the hospital delivering a baby when I got there, so I had to see the resident Dr that is there, but Dr A checked me again when he got there. My blood pressure is down a lot, so there is no longer any worry about that. It was 106/83 today so that's pretty good for me. I didn't ask how big I was measuring this time, as I was measured last week and I doubt it changed more than just a cm or 2. I gained 1/2 a pound since last week so I'm quite pleased with that too. Hopefully I won't have another huge jump again.

I now have to go for an ultrasound every 2 weeks from now on. We have to make sure both twins are still growing right and at the same rate. My next ultrasound is scheduled for October 25th, and the week after that is my next OB appt. And then of course the week after that will be another ultrasound! So it looks like I'll be spending the next couple of months at the doctor's office!

I'm still feeling fine. I'm sore, but not as sore as I've been lately. Heartburn is a regular occurance now, so I don't leave home without my bottle of Tums. I'm outgrowing most of my maternity clothes. I didn't even think it was possible to get too big for a maternity shirt, but I have! My tummy has just gotten so big that most of my shirts are too short now and the ones that have buttons pull apart! I'm starting to feel like I'm as big as I can possibly stretch, but I know I'm bound to get bigger in the coming months.

I made up my birth plan. I just wanted to explain our situation to the hospital staff, so when my IPs and I are there, we don't have to answer a million of the same questions over and over again. And of course, to explain my wishes for the birth and hospital stay to make it a nice experience for everyone.

I discussed plans for the birth with my IPs. They have decided to stay in the waiting room until after the delivery.

I went to visit my newest cousin yesterday. He is about 2 weeks old and weighs just about 7lbs now (about 1 1/2 pounds less than my kids weighed at birth!). He was just so tiny I couldn't even believe it, and I just couldn't stop thinking that the twins will probably be close to his size when they are born too. I can't wait to see what they will look like!!! Although, with all these ultrasounds coming up, I'll probably have a pretty good idea of what they look like before they are born anyway!

Once again the babies have changed their schedules. I think they like to keep me on my toes. They are very quiet and still during the day, but at night they start to party. Last night I think Michael flipped around, which of course makes me happy (if he stays that way that is!). This is a little bit from my newsletter: "Your baby weighs about 2.4 pounds (1100g). Crown to rump length is close to 10 inches (25cm). Total length is 15.75 inches (35cm)" So the babies are getting pretty big.

This is a little clip from my newsletter this week: "By this time your baby weighs about 2.7 pounds (1250g). Crown to rump length 10.4 inches (26cm). Total fetal length is 16.7 inches (37cm)."

Jason and I went out for supper last night. I couldn't fit in the booth, it was pretty funny. I did manage to squeeze this big tummy in there, but the more I ate, the tighter it got, hehehe.

I had another ultrasound today. Everything is great with the babies. They have both moved to the head down position again so now we have to hope they stay that way. Michael has now become baby A and Michelle is baby B. They base this on who is closest to the cervix, and therefore who will be delivered first, and that has always been Michelle, but apparently Michael decided it was his turn for a change.

Michael's heartrate was 163bpm and Michelle's was 152bpm. They also measure different points on the babies and using that they come up with an estimate of how much they weigh. Michael weighs 3lbs 6oz and Michelle weighs 3lbs 5oz. So now I know why I'm so uncomfortable, I have the equivalent of a 7lb baby in my tummy! The u/s tech said they look fantastic.

I asked about pictures again because I was planning on buying one as a keepsake for me of the pregnancy. I still think it's pretty crummy for the office to charge for a picture, but decided it was worth it for me to have a picture of them to remember the time I spent with them. Anyway, the doctor had left the office for lunch, and so had the receptionist, so the ultrasound tech gave me a break and printed off a few pictures for me for free. Of course I am thrilled about that!!!

I'm starting to feel better as well. I still don't have any energy, but I'm not in as much pain anymore. Maybe it's the position the babies have moved into now that's more comfortable for me (Michael is down really far and Michelle is up a little higher so thier heads aren't both squished into my ribs or pelvis like before).

My mom is also helping me out now. She came this week and and did a lot of cleaning around the house and has offered to come once a week or so to help out. I'm so lucky to have her :-)
