25 Weeks
September 25, 2001

My newsletter says that the babies are now each between 1.5 and 2lbs and are about 9 inches long (from head to bum). Well, they feel like they are each about 10 pounds to me, but I guess I was wrong!!

I'm getting Braxton Hicks contractions fairly often now. I've been having them since about 12 weeks, but they are definitely more noticeable and more frequent now. Nothing to worry about though because they are not regular and I don't get more than 5 per hour. Just a little bothersome is all.

The babies are still very active. Not so much at night anymore, mostly in the afternoon. I'm sure my IPs will appreciate that schedule if they stick to it!

I'm not as sore as I was last week, but I'm definitely still sore. Baths help a little, and so do all the massages Jason has been giving me. It's very nice having a husband who doesn't mind giving back rubs and foot rubs, and basically just all over massages everyday. I don't know what I'd do without him.

I'm 25 weeks 4 days pregnant

October 4, 2001

Today was my first "not so good" appointment with the doctor. Nothing is wrong with the babies, they are doing well. The ultrasound confirmed that they are indeed a boy and a girl and are growing really well. One of them is 3 days behind where an average single baby would be at this point (weight and measurements) and the other is 4 days behind so that is all good. I forgot to ask what their heartbeats were, but I know everything was normal. They are both breech now though (bum down) so that's crummy, although they still have time to move around again and get into a good position. Dr A says I will still be able to deliver them normally even if they are both breech since I've had 2 previous deliveries with no complications and these babies will no doubt be smaller so there should be no problem. EEEEK!!! I don't want to deliver breech babies!!! I would probably have to have an episiotomy (yikes!) which I've never had before, and it's supposed to hurt more (like it doesn't hurt enougb already!). But like I said, they still have plenty of time to turn around so I won't worry about that yet.

After the ultrasound I had my OB appt. I'm now measuring 36cm which is about 9-10 cm bigger than what I would be if I were carrying one baby. It's what a normal woman measures at about 8 months. I'm only seeing Dr A now because both babies are breech, which is unfortunate because I really like Dr L. And then they took my blood pressure which was way too high. They took it three differnt times and everytime it was high. And then I was weighed; in the last month my weight has gone up 12lbs. If you remember, I had only gained 9lbs total at my last appointment and so it's not a good sign that I've gained this much in such a short time. Anyway, I've got to check my blood pressure all week and write it down and next Friday I go back for another appointment. Hopefully everything will go back to normal. I'm also watching for swelling this week because my blood pressure and sudden weight gain could be a sign of pre-eclampsia (used to be called Toxemia) and that's not something we want to happen.

So now I just have to wait for my next appointment. I didn't get any pictures from the ultrasound again. This OBs office really sucks for ultrasounds!!! Last time they wouldn't give me a picture at all, now they give pictures but they charge $20 per picture!!! Can you believe that? They will also take a video of the whole thing (which I would LOVE to have) but they charge $50 for that and they make you bring in your own video tape!!! Isn't that crazy? They don't do anything different at all, just stick in the video, press record and do the u/s as usual, but apparently thats $50  worth of work!

I'm 26 weeks 6 days pregnant

October 5, 2001

Just wanted to share a couple of funny things that happened at the doctor's office that I forgot to write earlier :-)

There was a lady beside me in the waiting room with her daughter. She must have been around 5 or 6 months pregnant and her daughter was about 8 years old. The daughter is asking the mom questions about what the doctor will do at this appointment and just talking about babies. She asked her mom if the baby was going to come out today. The mom said No, not for a while yet and the daughter then pointed to me and said "Do you have to wait until you have a belly like that and then the baby will come?" It was very cute.

Then when I was called in for my appointment, there was a lady who was sitting there with her very pregnant daughter (I assume it was her daughter) looked at me and said "It looks like someone else is getting ready to evict their baby too" So everyone thinks I'm full term, ready to deliver and here I am only 6 months along! What are they going to say in another 2 months?

I'm 27 weeks pregnant, now officially in the third trimester. Where does the time go?

October 10, 2001

I"ve been monitoring my blood pressure all week and it seems to be getting better. At the doctor's office I can't remember exactly what it was, but I remember the bottom # was 110. But all this week it has been 148/80 and then yesterday it was 139/78 so I think I'm back under control. We'll see what happens I guess.

I had a little scare over the weekend. On Friday Dr L phoned me, only I wasn't home to recieve the call. She wouldn't tell Jason what it was about, but said she'd phone back on Tuesday (couldn't phone on Monday because it was Thanksgiving). Well, I've never had a doctor phone me unless something was wrong, so I wondered what it could be about. A few days earlier I had went in for my glucose test so I assumed that was what she was phoning about. Gestational Diabetes is more common with twins, and I was scared that's what was happening. That would mean a special diet for the rest of the pregnancy, pricking my finger all the time to test my blood, the babies would get REALLY big (like they aren't heavy enough already!) and possibly insullin injections. So obviously I was really worried about that.

So Tuesday morning at 9am Dr L phoned again. I picked up the phone to hear the bad news. Well, it turns out she was just wondering when I was coming in for my RhoGAM shot (because my blood is RH-). Big sigh of relief! And she also wanted to know if I was going to be able to conitinue seeing her as well as Dr A. So I had to tell her that Dr A wanted to see me until the end because of the breech and blood pressure issues. She said she would visit me in the hospital, isn't she great?

So everything looks like it's back on track for an uneventful pregnancy. I'm feeling okay---still just sore.
