16 Weeks
July 20, 2001

My tummy is starting to get sooooo big! I'm getting that pregnant waddle and I can even pop my belly button out when I want to (just to gross Jason out of course!) I'm still getting the little flutters every now and then, but no real definite kicks. I think I am measuring 23cm now.

I've started taking extra iron and I have more energy. Thank goodness! So that puts me on a regular prenatal vitamin, a calcium, iron, and folic acid supplement and a fish oil pill that helps to prevent preterm labor. I feel like I could open up my own drug store soon!

I've been having dreams about the twins. The first one I had was 3 nights ago. I dreamt that they were 2 boys. I was shocked because I thought Baby A was a girl, but they were so adorable. I also had one last night where the babies were both girls. I had them at 35 weeks and everyone was so surprised because we thought I'd make it longer than that. But again, they were so adorable.

So I don't even know what to think about their genders anymore!!! I'm still thinking one is a boy and one is a girl, but I'm not so sure anymore. I think the only thing that would surprise me at this point is if they were both boys.

About a week ago I decided to offer my IPs breastmilk for the twins once they come. I wanted to do this for many reasons. One is all the studies that show breastmilk is best for babies (although, after the first week I formula fed my kids and I think they turned out okay!). Another is to make saying goodbye to the twins a little easier knowing I'm still helping them grow even though I don't take care of them anymore. And I've heard it also helps in losing all the baby weight from the pregnancy. Also, a big benefit is I will be driving the milk to my IPs, so I will get to see the twins on a regular basis. That will be wonderful. So I'm hoping this works out because I'm really excited about it now.

I'm feeling movements everyday now. Not all the time, usually just at night while I'm in bed.

Jason and I are going away this weekend. Just a little get-away, so I'm really looking forward to that. My mom is coming to stay with the kids and I know they will love that. It will also give me more time to rest, so that will be good for the babies too.

Our vacation was wonderful--I wish it could have lasted a little longer!!! We stayed in Banff and did lots of walking and oh boy did my back ache after that! I feel like I'm about 7 months pregnant now, but I'm just 4. We went up the gondola, which was pretty amazing for me. I'm scared of heights and things like that, but I managed the 8 minute ride up, and once we got up there it was sooooo beautiful. While in Banff, one man said to me "You look like you're going to pop soon" Men are so good with words!! Anway, he looked pretty shocked when I said I was only 4 months. I took some pictures of my belly in Banff, so I'll post them soon.

On Sunday we went to the Calgary Zoo. I hadn't been there since I was a kid. It was a fun day.

But it's back to the regular routine now. Tomorrow I go in for a doctor's appt.

So far so good. I had my appointment with Dr L today and everything looked fine. My blood pressure is good, I've gained 6 pounds so far this pregnancy and I'm measuring 26cm (which is what I would measure at 26 weeks with one baby). Baby A's heartrate was 155bpm and Baby B's was 140bpm so I still think it is a boy and a girl. We'll see.

I also got referred to an OB. I will now alternate appointments with him and Dr L. My first appt with him is on August 14. I am also scheduled for an ultrasound that day. He has the equipment right in his office, so it will all be done at the same time. Hopefully we will find out the sexes that day!!!
