| Seniors Helping Seniors is not an organization or business! It's just me, and you, doing our thing to help other seniors who find themselves getting older and learning that "getting older" doesn't mean sitting on some beach soaking in the sun and fishing! I, like many others, figured that I would spend my life working to raise a family and, at the age of sixty-five, retiring to a life of leisure! Problem is, I'm sixty-one now and there's no "life of leisure" in my near future! Social Security isn't going to be enough to live on, what savings I had are dwindling away because I had to take a job that pays half of what I used to make and medical bills just seem to pile up. And I could go on and on but, instead, I'll just tell you that Seniors Helping Seniors is a result of me finding out that becoming a senior citizen is not a bed of roses! Many seniors find themselves looking at a future that is not all that bright! But a lot of us have found little ways of making it easier. Seniors Helping Seniors is here as a way for you to share some of the ideas you have on making "old age" more enjoyable! It's here so you can see what others do to help with the everyday problems that they run into. We have a guestbook that you can visit and leave your comments, a seniors forum (message board) where you can go to exchange messages with other seniors, we will be adding articals or tips from other seniors and we will have links to other sites to answer every concievable question that you might have. Take some time to browse through the site! If you find useful information, let us know in the guestbook! If you have things you'd like added to the site, again, let us know! And most importantly, if you can help other seniors out by sharing! Let us know! |

| My Story Most of my life has been spent earning from $25 to $35 K per year as a plant maintenance manager and a roof truss plant manager. Not enough money to really get ahead, but enough to live decently on. My wife and I raised two children and, although we didn't really have money to invest, we did manage to build up a small savings account. Like many people, the future didn't really concern us as we were busy with our day to day lives and figured the future would take care of its self. Oh sure! By the time I turned fifty, I was starting to think about the day that I could retire and do all those things that you do when you no longer have to spend the day working. I started realizing that social security wouldn't be enough to live on and that our savings wasn't going to go very far once we had to start dipping into it. Problem was, I didn't know the first thing about investing and even if I did, I was scared to use our savings in some risky way that might end up taking what little we had! So, I ended up doing nothing. I just continued working and wondering what was going to happen when retirement came! Then, things changed for us when I was fifty-nine! |
