| Vanessa Rubin Jazz was the soundtrack of her childhood, Vanessa once said. The Rubin household was a virtual artistic centre where the family piano was always in service. Vanessa took voice, ballet and piano lessons and not only listened to great jazz vocalists like Sarah Vaughan, Nancy Wilson and Carmen McRae, but also adored the Motown and R&B sounds, led by singers like Gladys Knight and Diana Ross. Although Vanessa had a professional singing career in her hometown Cleveland, she supplemented her voice by teaching and service as Dean of Students in New York's public school system. But she soon realised that her ultimate calling was to sing. And sing she did. Signed with RCA/Novus in 1991, Vanessa Rubin's first album "Souls Eyes" brought her wide recognition and respect from jazz circles. Now after several outstanding albums, Vanessa has established herself as a premiere vocalist, thrilling audiences at Carnegie Hall and prestigious venues and music festivals around the world. |
