Game Recap

Week 14
Rusty start can't hold back the Jayz

The Jayz returned to the field after a 4 week break and the long gap from play showed. But in true Jayz fashion they salvaged another come from behind win. The Jayz outscored the Sluggers 9-1 in the final 3 innings to steal the win 16 to 14.

The bats were alive from the start in Game 2 as the Jayz walked all over the Sluggers with a 21 to 14 win. Leanne also proved her homerun was no luck by hitting her 2nd inside the park homerun of the year.

It was the day of the call-ups with sluggers Matt and Ben not being able to attend. The call-ups work must not go unappreciated considering the 3 of them (Dad, Scott, Snide) combined for 18 hits on 21 at bats, 12 runs scored and 10 RBI's. Those are huge cleats to fill and they did it with ease. Voting is now open for you to pick your favorite call-up of the game.

Game Notes:
-Chris hit for the cycle for the 3rd time this year in game 1
-Leanne hits her 2nd inside the park homerun

Week 11
Costly Losses for the Jayz

The Jayz 6 game winning streak comes to an end but not without a fight. The Jayz, short a player to start the game, lose yet another 1 run game to the Twins. The loss came with a costly injury as Melissa who batted a 1.000 on the day was hurt sliding in to 3rd base. Early reports say she will likely be out the rest of the season with a broken bone.

With Jenn taking Melissa to the hospital and already being short a player the Jayz continued on with 7 players. Yes, thats right with no Rover or 2nd basewoman the Jayz battled to the end only losing 16 to 15.

The Jayz continued on still short 2 fielders for game 2 and battled to within 3 runs to start the bottom of the 7th. Adding 1 more run the Jayz couldn't pull out the win and lose 2 more heart breakers to the Twins. The Jayz were unable to win 1 for Melissa but she still earns MVP honours with her 1.000 batting average.

The 2 week break comes at a great time for the Jayz as they need to regroup and wait for the injury report on Melissa.

Week 10
Can the Jayz be stopped?

It's 6 wins in a row and the Jayz manage to hang on to 2nd place in the standings for another week. The records just keep rolling in this season as Lyndsey picks up 2 wins to become the winningest pitcher in Jayz history. Now we can't forget the 12 run 7th inning for the 2nd comeback win in as many weeks over the Beavers.

As much as I wanted to honour Anthonys 7 for 7 day and amazing 12 RBIs, I felt it would be unjust to not give Leanne MVP honours for her Homerun. Leanne got on base 6 times and scored 5 of those times. She added 2 RBIs and made a great ice cream cone catch to help shut the Beavers down in the 7th.

Week 9
The Jayz are for real

As a great player once told me, "chicken soup salad baby!.....easy as chicken soup salad". That sums up the Jayz weekend, as they pulled out 4 wins, which is more wins in 1 day than all of last season. This weekend will go down as one of the best moments in Jayz history. Right up there with Joe Carter's World Series winning HR off Mitch Williams. Although the Jayz had hoped to finish the day in 3rd place they will settle for 2nd place overall in the league.

The Jayz showed no mercy for the Beavers as they looked to overcome them for 3rd place in the standings. The Jayz put up 5 HR with Matt leading the way with 2 of his own. MVP goes to Chris who in the first game hit for the cycle for the 2nd time this year. He finished the series with the Beavers going 8 for 8, 1 HR, 6 runs scored and 7 RBI's.

Game Notes:
-Anthony went 6 for 6 to add to his team leading average

It was on to game 3 and 4 with the Orthotics who already took a beating from the Jayz earlier in the season. The dominance continued as it was an easy 21 to 14 victory in game 3 for the Jayz. The heat and fatigue started to sink in as they looked to finish off the 4 game sweep. With Ben leaving and for several players a 6th straight game, it did not look good for the Jayz. The Orthotics scored 18 runs in the first 4 innings taking a commanding lead. However, a 5 run 4th, 5th and 6th from the Jayz while holding the Orthotics to 1 run total in the 5th and 6th meant it was a new ball game. The Jayz took a 22 to 19 lead into the bottom of the 7th with the ball in Bishops hands. 3 straight hits to lead off and the Orthotics were within 1 with the tieing run on 3rd and 1 out. The Jayz knew their dreams of 4-0 day were slim at this point but a bloop fly ball would change all that as C-Mac tracked it down with the over the shoulder catch and the gun to Lyndsey at home for the game ending double play.

MVP goes to George who had a great leaping catch with 2 out to end an Orthotics rally. George finished the series 8 for 9 with 1HR, 6 runs, 4 RBI's.

Game Notes:
-The Jayz scored 43 runs in the 2 games (most in Jayz history)
-Jayz finish the last 2 games with a .719 batting average
-Steve hits first out of the park homerun

Week 8
With some outstanding defence the Jayz were able to keep the undefeated #1 rated Pumas to 13 runs in game 1. Always within striking distance, the Jayz just couldnt capitalize as the bats went cold. Batting coach Jeremy Spencer was no where to be found and the bats went colder for game 2 as they took the loss by way of the mercy rule. That's 3 losses in a row and the Jayz season may be crumbling beneath them.

The bright spot of the day was Tonys glove which unofficially recorded 22 of the 36 outs. He will take home MVP honours this week and look to hold down the outfield for next weeks games.

The Jayz will begin preparation for the most crucial games of the season, as the next 2 weeks will make or break the Jayz in the standings. They will have a chance to secure a strong hold on 3rd place if they come up with 4 wins. Rumor of a mid summer pool party also has the team spirit high, as they look to drown their sorrows away and start a new winning streak.

Week 7
A Big week for the Jay's considering last years MVP Chris Mackinnon was on the Island of Prince Edward. The offence and defense was shining in the 1st game scoring an unbelievable 28 runs, unfortunately it all fell apart a bit in the 2nd game and the Jayz finished the week at 1-1. Perhaps it was the song they sang before the 2nd game that got in the Jayz heads a bit.

Down a few other key players, some were packing their belongings for a big move while others felt it perhaps was just too windy/cloudy to play or maybe Scott Ryan had another party. Conditions at the field were pretty much perfect for a day of ball and those who missed out missed out big on one of the greatest Jayz games to date.

Leading the way in an offensive masterpiece was Anthony Bishop with 3 HR's on the day and an impressive 8 RBI. Honorable mention to Ben and Matt with 3 HR, 8 RBI and 2 HR and 7 RBI respectively.

Special thanks to Ryan Cook and Megan Murphy who showed up as emergency spares to counter our lack of players.

-Ben Kean

Week 6
The Year of the Jayz

Word about the Jayz is obviously spreading through the league as the Rascals didn't want to test the Jayz talent. Its 2 big wins for the Jayz moving them back to .500 with a favourable schedule coming up. MVP goes to Chris who walked all over the less than stellar defence. Chris turned a double play on Leanne, hit for the cycle in game 2 and ended the day with 9 RBIs. Anthony wasnt far behind going 9 for 9 and scoring 7 times. Anthony continues to lead the Jayz in average as he has only been stopped once this year.

Game notes:
-George hits his first homerun of the year
-Jen goes 6 for 7 scoring 5 times

Week 5
A week of rest and the Jayz are still sitting 4th in the league. Looks like there might be a fight for 3rd place this year. With a more than friendly matchup this week against Team Ryan...Team Scott Ryan...or Team Rascals...i dont know but if they cant even figure out their team name I would sure as hell hope we could beat them.

Help has arrived....the Easton Stealth along with an Easton Synergy have finally made it. The Stealth is aleady 6 for 6 in league play for C-Mac. I don't know about you but if Leanne breaks either one im going to start spreading her RBI's around the team.

See you all next week as we move back to .500.

Week 4
As feared, the week long break took its toll on the Jayz as their hitting was scarce as a Stanley Cup in Toronto. The lack of bats will surely be the blame for these 2 losses. The long awaited Easton Stealth was unfortunately lost in the mail by Canada Post and an ETA is unknown at this point. With an off week coming up the team is hopeful the bat will arrive for Week 6.

The lack of offense makes it a tough choice for MVP this week. The best work of the day was probably the photography by Jocelyn in the dugout. However, the defense came up strong in game 2 and Albert takes home MVP with a great pitched game. Albert went the distance with a complete game, 11 run, 1 K performance. To travel 3 hours for a game is certainly a MVP effort.

Game Notes:
-George goes 4-4 with a BB
-Matt hits a 3 run HR

Week 3
Hot hitting Jayz cooled off by the rain.

The Jayz were looking to move above .500 with a couple wins over the slumping Beavers but will have to wait another week after both games were cancelled due to rain. Coach Anthony Bishop worries that the extra week off will slow the teams hitting which has been phenomenal this year.
(Anthony) "Whenever a team is swinging the bat as good as we are, you want to hit the field as often as you can to reap the rewards."

Things get worse for the Jayz as next weeks match up is anything but favorable as they meet the Pumas, a team they have never won against. Reinforcment has been called in as the Jayz new bat (Easton Stealth) is on order and will be arriving in the next couple days.

The Jayz have 2 broken bats in the first 2 weeks of the season and are left scrambling for hope. That hope may come from the pop of the new Easton Stealth. Last years batting champ Ben Kean had this to say: "I am estatic to be reunited with an Easton Stealth but I wont lie to you....I dont think it had anything to do with the bat."

Week 2
A lot of records set for the Jayz this week as they take both games moving to 2-2 and sitting at .500 in the standings for the first time in team history. Leanne takes home MVP honours this week after hitting the dirt twice in the field. Ill tell you one thingthere is nothing I like better than a dirty girl, especially when they come up with ball in hand. Leanne also helped turn 1 of 3 double plays on the day. Now, I know what you are thinking...how do you give MVP to a person who breaks the homerun bat?? Well guys she did drive in her first RBI before breaking it.

Honourable mention to Ben with 2 HRs but his lack of dedication in the 2nd game left him out of the MVP running. Tony also had a great day at the plate going 5-5 with 4 runs and 4 RBIs.

Game Notes:
-Jayz had a record 6 HR over the fence (only 4 counted)
-Jeremey hits his first HR in 3 years which goes down as the longest out in Jayz history
-Ryan hits first career HR with the Jayz

Week 1
The Jayz appeared to be at the top of their game sitting tight with one of the top teams in the league. It was an unbelievable pitching performance by Lyndsey who shut down the power hitting Twins. This may have been one of the best pitching performances I have seen since Ben Kean pitched a complete game shutout for CTV. Looks like we wont have to call Sylvain in from the bullpen anytime soon.

Game Notes:
-Chris went 5-5 scoring all 5 times and driving in 4
-Matt hits his first HR with the Jayz
