| The main fuel filter is changed by loosening the 19mm bolt on the top of the fuel filter housing. You also have to remove the black plate on the top that holds in some of the fuel fittings on the side of the filter housing and guides the black plastic brake fluid line. The fuel filter will drop down and be removed by moving it horizontally towards the front of the car. Install the heater band on the new 80mm diameter filter so the wires angle upwards. Do not tighten yet. Make sure the screw heads are facing the proper direction for tightening once installed. Fill the fuel filter with diesel fuel or injector cleaner (Power Service, Seafoam, Diesel Purge) to reduce the time it takes to purge the air from the system. Install the filter so the wire leads point towards the battery compartment. See pictures below Once the main fuel filter is done tighten the heater band so the wires dont touch anything. You can change the fuel pre-filter if you dont know the last time it was done. This is the biggest source of fuel leaks so make sure it is tightened correctly and change the o-ring, dont reuse it. The band heater is designed to fit a Bosch filter, number 1 457 434 123. Other brands of filters might have a slightly different outside diameter and not fit the heater correctly. |
