| This is a diagram on swapping from points to an electronic ignition. The setup includes a MSD 6AL (rev limiter included), Blaster 2 Coil, Pertronix Ignitor, and a MSD tach adapter so you can use your stock tach. I also used Magnecor plug wires. The stock regulator mounted below the coil and the resistor mounted above the coil are not necessary with this setup.
The Pertonix Ignitor is a direct replacement for the points. You can buy one that is made just for the Z. I recently purchased a Mallory mechanical advance distributor with a pertronix ignitor. I will use this to replace the stock vacuum advance distributor. |

As you can see the MSD is mounted close to the battery tray. An aluminum bracket was fabricated and installed with rubber feet to reduce vibrations. The wiring is run along with the main harness. I have seen the MSD mounted on the side of the strut tower, but the ID badge must me moved. | ||||||
