Roswell-Enterprise Crossover (Of Sorts)
Network synergy will be simmering at UPN this fall when the sci-fi series Roswell-- one of the shows UPN snatched earlier this year-- crosses over with Enterprise-- sort of.  Jonathan Frakes, who produces Roswell, will guest star in an episode of Roswell (that he will also direct) that will see a Roswellian character try out for a guest starring role on Enterprise.  Although Rick Berman approved of the idea, he wouldn't let Roswell film on the Enterprise sets, and though Roswell's producers wanted Scott Bakula to guest star in the episode, Bakula declined given it being the early days of the new series.

ENTERPRISE IN TV GUIDE

TV Guide's issue for the week of August 20 features multiple covers featuring the crew of Enterprise.  The ship was recently featured in the July 9 edition of TV Guide, in which co-creator Rick Berman previewed the cast of the new series.  In this edition, the cast speaks for itself, talking about the show and their characters.  As it has done for most of its recent Star Trek covers, TV Guide is issuing a variety of covers to newsstands and is offering another cover that can only be purchased through their website.

The magazine will offer covers of Dominic Keating, Connor Trinneer and Linda Park (left); Anthony Montgomery and John Billingsley (left); as well as Jolene Blalock and Scott Bakula.

The issue will also have another interview with Rick Berman and a closer look at the sets of the series.

Robert Duncan McNeill on 'Enterprise'
Robert Duncan McNeill (Voyager's Tom Paris) will, along with Roxann Dawson and LeVar Burton, be directing an episode this season.  At a recent convention he mentioned some of his impressions of the new series, saying, "I've been by twice [to the set] since Voyager ended--once just to say 'hi' to the crew, from Voyager. Most of the crew from our show has gone over to the new show. And then one day I came over just to meet the actors and hang out for a little while, since I'm directing in September."  About the series, he said, "What can I tell you? The ship is very small. That I can tell you. The corridors we got used to were very big and grand-- very majestic feeling-- but here, it's very...small....I really don't know a whole lot about it. Once I get back in September, I'll start sitting around and doing something, but I really don't know a whole lot right now.  I know they're going for a lot of humor, though. And Scott Bakula is very funny. The one scene that I saw them shooting, there was more humor, that kind of goofy humor, than we tended to do on our show. So I think they are kinda going back to the Original Series in a way."

Star Trek's Social Commentaries at the Crossroads
The seventh season of Voyager behaved as the most social activist in recent Trek memory.  Good thing, or good riddance?  Star Trek has a history of its social commentary stories, but is it time to finally give them up?  The seventh season had a plethora of examples of how much, and how little, Trek's social commentaries have changed in three decades. Do social commentaries have a place in Trek anymore?

KATE MULGREW TO APPEAR IN STAR TREK X
According to a recent, unconfirmed report, Kate Mulgrew will appear as Captain Janeway in Star Trek X.  There had been rumors that Jeri Ryan was going to appear as Seven of Nine in the next movie.  A recent rumor suggests that Jeri Ryan's shooting schedule on Boston Public would preclude that appearance, and so Janeway will appear instead.  However, since these are all rumors, it may be entirely possible that one, both or neither will actually appear in the film.
Among the rumors swirling about Mulgrew's appearance:  Seven of Nine's role in the film was apparently supposed to be very minor.  If Janeway appears, she might have a small role.  However, one rumor also says that her role is fairly substantial.  One rumor said that she was due to report to the set for two days of filming once production starts, which would suggest a minor role.  However, since no director has been announced for the film, it seems somewhat unlikely that the shooting schedule for the film has been drawn up.

It is said that Jeri Ryan couldn't appear in the movie because of her new gig on the TV series Boston Public.  But again, for a cameo appearance it seems odd that this would completely preclude her from reprising Seven of Nine in Star Trek X.  This raises questions about whether the Janeway-Seven duo will both appear in the film, or just Janeway.  If this is the case, the next question would surround whether Janeway will serve the purposes apparently originally intended for Seven, or if the part will be substantially retooled to reflect the magnitude of having the captain from another Trek series make an appearance opposite her Enterprise counterpart.

"Endgame" Ratings Information
Press articles and number crunching regarding Voyager's finale ratings are now compiled together here.

"Endgame" Rates Well
Reports Variety: "``Voyager'' (8.81 million, 4.6/13 in adults 18-49) gave UPN its seventh biggest night ever -- and largest since the show's season premiere in September 1997 -- and led the network to a second-place  demo finish on the night. The big night also enabled UPN to pull even with last May's performance in adults 18-49 and to move ahead of the WB in overall audience for the month."
That full article can be found here.
The Hollywood Reporter printed UPN's reaction to this news.  "First and foremost, the indicators from the 'Voyager' wrap-up are that if we put the right kind of 'Star Trek' programming on, there's great enthusiasm for it," Tom Nunan, UPN's entertainment president, said.
That full article can be found here.

FULL ENDGAME RATINGS SUMMARY.

"Endgame" A Huge Success
Likely exceeding even the most optimistic expectations, the series finale of Voyager, "Endgame", brought UPN up to second place for Wednesday night.  Reports Zap2it.com, " "Star Trek: Voyager" ended its series in style, going out with a two-hour episode that won the eight o'clock hour with a 7.9/13, and averaged an 8.3/13 for the night. (Last week, "Special Unit 2," 3.2/5, "Star Trek: Voyager," 5.5/8)."   This has to be considered impressive especially considering UPN's usual status at the bottom of the network rankings.  Reports Zap2it.com, "Even without "The West Wing," NBC finished the last night of May Sweeps in first place on Wednesday night with an 11.9 ratings/18 shared (last week, 11.8/19). The Cinderella story of the evening however was UPN, which shot up from its usual ranks at the bottom to No. 2 with an 8.3/13 (4.3/7).  ABC came in third with a 7.2/11 (7./912), followed by CBS in fourth, 6.9/11 (7.6/12). FOX, 6.0/9 (6.0/10), and The WB, 4.3/6 (4.2/6), rounded out the networks for the evening."
Quickly jumping to capitalize on this success, the official website reports that "Endgame" will be aired again on Sunday.

Kate Mulgrew Talk Show Appearance
Kate Mulgrew was scheduled to appear on the Rosie O'Donnell show on Wednesday, April 25, according to the show's website.  However, the site mistakenly listed April 25 as the date of her appearance when she will in actuality appear on Thursday, April 26.
During her appearance, she said of the finale's much rumored plot, "It's unbelievable.  It's Janeway and Janeway.  It's a double-whammy in every sense of the word."

Alice Krige Reprises Borg Queen
In a bit of unusual casting news, Kate Mulgrew let slip during a TV interview on Fox and Friends the suggestion that Alice Krige, who played the Borg Queen in "Star Trek: First Contact" would play her again in "Endgame", instead of Susanna Thompson, who played her in "Dark Frontier" and "Unimatrix Zero".  When the subject of the Borg Queen in "First Contact" came up, Mulgrew offered, "That was Alice Krige.  She's marvelous.  I have some good stuff with her in the finale-- really good."  For her part, Susanna Thompson was one of the guests at Voyager's wrap party, which had suggested that she reprised her character in "Endgame".
