The new look is a tribute to Curt Hennig, who passed away last month at age 44. He worked for the wwf in the late 80's and early 90's and was one of the most physically gifted and entertaining wrestlers of his time. Although his career spanned three decades, he's best remembered for a series of hilarious video packages that WWE used to introduce his "Mr. Perfect" character in 1988. These commercials would show Hennig impressing sports stars with his athletic ability. At the very end, perfect would perform a feat so amazing that the professional would be awestruck. Thanks to some clever editing, Mr Perfect could make full court jumpshots, hit a golf ball 500 yards and a baseball out of a major league stadium with ease.
My favorite one has got to be the one with Perfect and future hall of famer Chris Carter at the Metrodome. Carter would run deep out patterns, then get hit right in the numbers by Perfect's precision passes. In the next scene, Perfect and Carter are standing in the end zone. Carter, the pro football player, is winded from running five routes. Perfect is not tired at all because he's, you know.
Carter: Those were some great passes! You're amazing!
Perfect: You think that's impressive, watch this!
At this point, Hennig throws a pass from the end zone to no one in particular and starts running. For then next ten seconds, we cut between footage of the football flying through the air and Perfect running the length of the field. Carter does his "I can't believe this is happening." face. After crossing the goal line of the other end zone, Perfect slows down, looks up and catches his own pass without breaking a sweat.
Carter: That's unbelievable!
Perfect: No, Chris. That was perfect!
Even at eight, I knew that was some serious bullshit. I wanted to see this guy wrestle and i really wanted to see him lose, which meant the pieces had done their job.
12/22/2003: My last recap of the niteshift program was posted last week. I don't listen much these days and the recap should illustrate why.
The collage on the top of the page is made up of pictures from my trip to New Mexico. All I heard from people when I won the essay contest, during the interview process and even during the trip was, "this is a once in a lifetime opportunity". It's taken six years, but the truth of that statement is finally hitting me.
Listening to that radio show last week inspired me to try something new. The "song of the month" section is no more. The 15 mb of space I'm allowed on geocities and my slow modem have taken the fun out of uploading mp3's. Also, I'd much rather verbally intro the songs I choose than write essays. With the mixer software I bought last month and real producer, I've put together a sample of what I want to do. My microphone's not working, so it's 30 minutes of music this month. And at 4.7mb, the real media file's not a strain on yahoo's servers or your hard drive. You can download it by clicking the "Low Quality Radio" link on the left side of the page or this one. If you have questions about the playlist or anything else, feel free to e-mail me.
