     Robert was born at Virginia, circa 1730. He married Rebecca Wofford at Virginia, circa 1750. Robert Carlton performed patriotic service during the Revolutionary War. Robert provided 9 gallons of Brandy for the troops. Source: Public Service Claims, King and Queen County, Lists 4. This family was Baptist, Robert, Sr. being a Deacon. Robert had brothers Thomas and Henry. The family came by boat from Virginia to Savannah, Georgia in 1783 and then travelled to Wilkes county. Sons Isham and Isaac were in the Revolutionary War, one in the Navy and the other in the Army. Both were in the siege of Yorktown. Robert Carlton left a will on 11 March 1796 at Wilkes County, Georgia, In the name of God Amen. I Robert Carlton of the County of Wilkes State of Georgia being old and infirm but of sound and perfect mind and memory do make ordain and declare this my last will and testament.
Imprimis, I give and bequeath unto my daughter Patsey one negro man named Phill and one negro girl named Rhoda with her increase to her and her heirs forever, also one feather bed and furniture.
Item I give and bequeath to my son Robert that part or parcel of the tract of land on which (I ?) now lying along a marked line beginning a few yards below __________, and running from thence to a small hickory corner and from thence to Col. Taliaferro red oak corner to him to his heirs forever also one negro man named Lue and one negro girl named Aggy with her increase to him and his increase forever also one feather bed and furniture.
Item I give and bequeath to my son Jacob the residue of the tract of land on which I live also one negro man named Will and a negro girl named June with her increase and one bed of furniture to him and his heirs forever which he is to put into possession of Immediately after my death whether of age or not.
