AUTHOR
rick's smiling face
THE AUTHOR - Hi, I'm Rick Brown. I live in Nebraska (of all places) which is the same state where I grew up so many years ago!
I like to tell stories and I love listening to the radio so I've combined these two items and created A Jarful of Stories. Each week I get to tell stories and be on the radio. What fun! I hope you like to listen to A Jarful of Stories because it would be a shame to have all this fun by myself.

the early (oh brother) years Oh, brother! That sounds so corny, but I was a child at one time. I was born in 1953 and grew up in Norfolk, Nebraska. I had a fun childhood. One of my favorite things was to put together plastic models. I must have made hundreds of them.
I also did the usual kid stuff like watching TV and running around like crazy outside (and sometimes inside the house).
But even as a kid, I love to make up stories. I remember making newspapers, books and puppets when I should have been doing, oh, something as silly as homework. Now I look back on those early years and wonder, what in the world was I thinking?
what in the world?
Once I remember tying up my brother and hiding him in the basement. When I saw my Mom, I said, "Hi, Mom! Have you seen Doug lately?" Of course she hadn't but I wanted to ask anyway.
Hm, all the sudden these stories don't seem so interesting. What I'm trying to tell you is that I had an average upbringing and I'm just regular guy who likes to tell stories.

last week
Why do this in order? So last week I had a job with out local school district where I transport special needs children. I've been doing that job since 2001. What else is different about last week? Heck, I don't know.  I guess I'll just list some random facts about myself:
  • I wear contacts
  • I'm the world's worst speller
  • I like to dance
  • My birthday is in December
  • I'm over 9 feet tall (not really)
  • I know how to ride a horse bareback
  • I ride my bike to work
  • I can juggle
  • I know how to play the guitar
  • I like to cross-country ski
  • I've been to every state except Hawaii
  • I can swim
  •  I'm been to the top of the Empire State Building
  • I used to live in Yellowstone National Park
rick's frumpy faceI live with my family in Kearney, Nebraska which is about half way between anywhere. We moved here because Hieid wanted to take glass blowing classes at the University of Nebraska at Kearney. This town is ok so we bought a house and we've been living here since 1999.
We have three children: Sam, Kepler and Carroll. Right now (as of May 2006) Sam is 13 years old. Keppy (we call her that) is 4 and Carroll is 2 years old with birthdays coming in July. They do get older, don't they.
heidi and carroll
This is Heidi and Carroll hanging out together in our kitchen. Like most families, that's where we spend most of our time. Heidi is a very good cook and usually makes everything from scrtach. And I mean everything. She even makes tortillas that are fantastic. Oh, did I mention her famous macaroons?

Well, that's about all I have to tell you about myself. I'll add more as the days go by. Thanks for visiting and stop by any time. Now you can write to me and tell me about yourself.
