author's notes . . . yawn!
     This week's story is a poem abou Christmas. Where Is My Christmas List tells the story of  that most important thing: the Christmas List. Can you imagine losing your list? Why, you'd have to start all over. And maybe you'd have to think about what is really important in your life.
     As you're thinking about Christmas, but sure to keep this poem in mind. And remember the second to the last line!
        Read on.
WHERE IS MY CHRISTMAS LIST?
By
Rick Brown

WHERE IS MY CHRISTMAS LIST?

I keep misplacing it all the time;
If I recall I was on page 279
    of a list of all lists that Santa just shouldn’t miss.

I was just getting started,
    It would be such a shame;
    If I had to start all over again.

These are the thing I can’t live without
These are the things I always dream about:
a pencil that does your math for you;
a thing you plug in that does what you should do;
a computer disk that plays by itself;
a series of blank books that sits on your shelf;
clothes you can’t wear;
smelly stuff for your hair;
a pet that doesn’t care;
twenty-two pairs of boring underwear.
Dolls and race cars
and bears and handlebars
and gidegts and gadgets
and widgets and wagets
and things I know nothing about.
The entire contents of a large toy store,
dumped on my lawn,
inside and out.

Oh, throw in a skyscraper
     filled with flypaper
     and stuck to each little square inch
     is a piece of candy that tastes so dandy
     it would make the Statue of Liberty itch.

But that’s not all.
No, there’s so very much more
    of which I’d be happy to tell you about
    but I certainly wouldn’t want to bore
    because these are things that a fellow needs in life,
    things he needs and would be extremely nice
    if Santa this year would be a good dear
    and get on this list right away.

Hey! WHERE’S MY CHRISTMAS LIST?

Isn’t this just fine?
Now I’m up to page 499
    of a list that should let old Santa Claus know
    where in my neighborhood he should go.

Yo, I’m right here! Come on, Santa, dear.
Load up my house with all of your—what?
He’s just gone by?
He didn’t stop here?
On this deep winter night?
That’s not right.

I’ve been good and
    I’ve been kind and
    I’ve done the kinds of things
    that you’ll find on page 42
    of my Christmas List,
    if I can just find it here
    in this Christmas mess.

WHERE IS MY CHRISTMAS LIST?
I guess maybe I’m asking too much.
Maybe I was in too much of a Christmas rush.
Thinking of only myself
    and all these prizes made by a Santa elf.

Heck, I really have all I need right here;
And it’s all contained in this good Christmas cheer.
Think of others as you wish to be thought
because the best Christmas is a Christmas
    that can’t be bought.

Merry Christmas.

second thoughts
    Yes, we all seem to be searching for the true meaning of Christmas. I think it is right in front of us if only we'd be willing to look for it.
