| School uniforms and dress codes are very controversial dialogues discussed both locally and nationally. Many people are involved in the issue debating the negative and positive aspects of school uniform policies. Due to the increase in school violence across the country, people are looking further into the implementation of school uniforms as a solution. In "Manual on School Uniforms," presented by the US Department of Education Safe and Drug Free Schools, specific guidelines for a successful school uniform policy were laid out. However, some critics, such as Kathleen L. Paliokas and Ray C. Rist, authors of "Do They Reduce Violence?Or Just Make Us Feel Better?," feel that mandatory dress codes restrict students? freedom of expression and individuality. An excerpt from a high school's planner shows us how schools are implementing a strict dress code. We will discuss these articles in-depth on other webpages throughout this website. | |

| The name "Jared's Angels" is actually a codename for our group. We're four Miami Univesity students in Oxford, OH, who are doing a pedagogical project for our EDL 204 class. The name came about because within the group is one male and three females, hence the "Jared's Angels" title. With this website we hope that other students will look at it and obtain information regarding school uniforms and dress codes. We have three sources which we analyzed analytically, interpretively, and normatively, and each section below contains our writings which we analyzed. The three sources that we found are listed below, two of which are websites and the other an exerpt from a high school's dress code policy.

| To dissect these texts more, we analyzed them analytically, interpretively, and normatively. In these sections, we shortened the names of the articles to simpler ones. The high school planner is simply referred to as "the planner," the source entitled "Manual on School Uniforms" is shortened to "the manual," and the article from Education Week called "Do They Reduce Violence - Or Just Make Us Feel Better?" is simplified to "the article." Just click on one of the links below to go to the webpage containing the specified analysis.
