Tangleweb is a member of a race of peaceful spider-like creatures who had come upon a crashed spaceship on his homeworld and used the technology of the ship to augment himself. He began attacking other space travelers, further advancing himself with their technology and absorbing their intelligence and memories by consuming their brains. The Legion came upon him during their first official mission when they were sent to investigate some missing freighters which he had hijacked but he escaped after kill-ing Kid Quantum. The Legion was sent after him again and found that he had begun transforming more of his race into beings like himself, but were able to defeat him.

Mano is a genetically engineered mutant who was born with a disk on his left hand that disintergrates anything it touches. His people destroyed them-selves in a war with chemical weapons provided by Leland McCauley. After surviving the suicidal destruction of his planet, he sought revenge and traveled to McCauley's headquarters on the Earth's moon. The Legion arrived and were able to apprehend him and McCauley secretly kept him prisoner on his base until the Legion was sent to retrieve him to form the Fatal Five. Mano assisted the Five in attacking the Legion and escaped with them as they were beginning to lose, but turned against them and almost killed Tharok when he realized their mission would lead to the deaths of millions of innocents.
