Coming back to Chop Suey...
Many JAO members and their families have fond memories of post game meals and meetings at the Far East Caf�. Closed after earthquake damage made the entire building unsafe, the caf� has been resurrected as Chop Suey. Join President Jae and his Miss O Jena as check out the restoration this establishment has undergone. The menu consists of Asian Fusion and some old standards you may remember. Our own Mike Gin is a partner in this venture and that has taken 2 � years to complete.
Sheriff�s Round-Up
There is a saying "The more things change, the more they stay the same." It is a very appropriate saying for us this month. We being by visiting the revitalized Far East Caf� now Chop Suey and continue through the celebration of Nisei Week. For all of our advances in science and technology and the shrinking world, we need to remember our past and our traditions. The youth we work with need to connect with their past in order to continue onto their futures. Otherwise we run the risk of a nameless, faceless society with no sense of self. For that matter, we can fall into that malaise as well. Let us all celebrate our histories and traditions that we may pass them on to our future generations.

Last Meeting... Nisei Week Court Visitation
Last week we hosted the six Nisei Week Queen Candidates and members of the Nisei week foundation. Our speakers were David Ono, news anchor for KABC7 and Tamlyn Tomita. We were treated to a lively almost stand-up comedy presentation by David and Tamlyn, followed by an equally entertaining question and answer session. The candidates then gave their introductions and were presented with flowers by the club. The evening was concluded over drinks and barbs at Chop Suey. Check out the pictures of the evening here.

August 16 Meeting-DARK
There will be no August 16 general meeting.
Scrapbook Meetings
Scrapbook Meetings continue every Thursday starting at 6:00PM at Toyo Miyatake Studio in San Gabriel. Join President Jae and his committee as they put together the memories of his year.
Nisei Week Parade
Come join the JAO Parade walking club as we escort President Jae while he pull Miss O Jena Iwata around the parade route. We hope to be joined by Splashy�s JOOI Club. The parade will be held Sunday afternoon, August 13. Meet us at Centenary Church approximately 1pm.
Nisei Week Carnival
The carnival returns and JAO will again serve the community. We will have a free kids game booth and basically give toys away to kids with the thought being to reward them for their best efforts and encourage them to try and to participate. The shifts will be spaced out between 9 and 7PM, Saturday the 19th and Sunday the 20th.
PSED Convention
The PSED Convention will be held August 11-13 at the Quails Inn Resort in Lake San Marcos just outside of San Diego. Room rates are $99.00 per night (800) 447-6556. Let Secretary Russel Fujii know if you want to go. (Russ� contact info below)
Printed Ricksha Copies
Thank you for your responses to hardcopy mailings of the Ricksha. Those of you who haven't responded yet, please do so soon. Other Optimist clubs and OI Officers need not reply. If you need a hardcopy sent to you please respond to my e-mail or phone below and we will continue to send the Ricksha out to you. We will assume everyone who does not respond is getting the Ricksha online directly or by reading it on the website. - Russel
