General Meeting
Date: Wed., May 17th 2006
7:00 pm Dinner
Venue: Taix Restaurant
1911 W. Sunset Blvd.
Los Angeles, CA
Program: Teacher Appreciation
Join us as we honor two very important people. As our motto is Friend of Youth, who are more deserving of praise than teachers? We have 2 special teachers from the Optimist Youth Home school. They have not only taken on the task of helping guide youths to adulthood but they have chosen to work with young people who have to overcome the additional challenges that got them assigned to the Home in the first place, Expected to join us are Sil Orlando, the Director of the Youth Home and Terry McWeeney, our Lt. Governor.
Sheriffs Round-Up
Memorial Day is approaching fast. Initiated to honor the Civil-War dead, the Federal Government declared it a National Holiday to honor all those who died in any American war in 1971. Unfortunately, those ranks are still growing. We are reminded the price of freedom is not free. Let us pass this on to our children in hopes they may find non-violent solutions to the problems of our world that we ourselves have not been able to.
Jae
JAO President
Last Meeting...
Thanks go out to Paul Yamaguchi for a wonderful evening of food and fellowship at Maison Akira. The food was fantastic and complimented well by the wine Paul offered up from his own stock. It was very nice to see so many wives and girlfriends out as well.

Our Gang
We pass along our wish for a speedy recovery to Past-president Howie Hiyoshida for his operation for double-knee replacement May 1st. We hear he is progressing well. Also on the mend, Mike Gin is recovering from a broken arm suffered while playing baseball. Anyone still think baseball is a non-contact sport?
