I got my first parrot at about 10 years ago, she was an old amazon from a lady who could not take care of them anymore.
My dear Lorre died 10 years ago, her lungs were very bad, but like the cockatiels I got the parrot fever, and now, jan. 2009 , I have got 9 of them
I started to read a lot about them and became member of parrot mailinglists on the www Most of the parrots I now have are given away to us because of the sounds they make ( I regret it but I was obliged to seel my two umbrellas cockatoos for this reason ) and/or were plucking parrots Fortunately we have very good neigbours and the aviary is next to a parking place, so there are no houses there.
Coco , for example, the cag came here with blood on the perches and with only a few fluffy feathers. He stood in a very dark room and his food were sunseed pits. He lived in a cafe the owners were rebuilding their restaurant he did not fit in it anymore so he went to the kitchen, poor animal lWe went to an avian vet with hem , she gave him a collar and he got better. with better food, lots of toys and attention.
Last year we decided to make an outsitde aviary for the 7 greys, but two males coming from one owner were getting more and more agressive to Coco and the female Harry, so we devided the big avary in two parts. They come from belgium and are speaking french and a litte bit english ( f.i. : good night, bon soir )
The amazon is very old, estimated by the vet for at about 60 years or older and a little bit tame, especially for my daughter. He talks a lot and can scream very loud ! The goffini cockatoo is a very tame one, he is kind for everybody and is the mate of Cora,
The two umbrella cockatoos are also tame, and have already had eggs but i am afraid that the man is still lacking in experience, because the eggs were vertile
