MYNAH S

At about 10 years ago I read an adverticement of a mynah bird who was looking for an other home, and although no experience with this kind of birds, we went to to lady and bought the bird. .
I became member of
http://mynahbird.com, and learned a lot there !
Jackie was the name of the bird, she was not tame but a very good talker, with sometimes a little bit fun in it. like: 1,2,3, ....5
We had her in a parrot cage in the living room and after a while we gave her a bigger cage ,  our biggest  mistake, because one piece of wood we  had on the bottum of her cage became her dead.
All of my mynahs went to an avian vet to be sexed  etc.

Many other mynahs followed, helas due to bad food in the past 3 of them died ( a mynah needs food poor of iron!!!) and we now have two of them left, Ome Jan the male, and Grego the female.
They talk and sing a lot , you can approach them but they are not tame.

They have had eggs an chicken for many times, but helas they either throw out the eggs or the babies out of the nest to start all over again...

They live in the aviary together witl all other birds I have ( except the parrots of course) and are not agressive, only when they have eggs no birds are allowed to come nearby their nest.

They get universal food ( poor of iron!) , and all kind of extras like rice, pasta, dogbread, some meat, fruit and veggies, mealworms, maggets etc etc.

Background : Grego the female.

UPDATE 2006
in juni 2006 my dear Grego died suddenly, probably because of the rat we had in the aviary. Ome Jan her mate  was looking for her and disturbed all nests wich eggs and/or chicken so we kept him in the living room but this did not work, het did not talk anymore and was really sad.
We brought him to a new owner who clipped his wings and he is a free range bird now and very happy
Helas, this is the end of my mynah chapter, butr I am very happy that Ome Jan has found a good new home.

me in the first part of the aviary with the mynahs, you can also see a few kakariki s
Grego not in good condition due to  2 weeks nesting, and Ome Jan.
As you can see she is so in love with him that she has picked him above his eyes !
