Kakariki s
Two years ago I got a tame kakariki hen from  a yahoo- list girlfirend who had her two kakariki s  in the living room and she thougth it would be much better to give them more freedom in an aviary since thye were trying to mate.
Yellow the pied kakariki  came together  with a male lutino, but he died helas,
In my opinion kakariki s dont belong in a small cage in the living room because they  need lots of space, and like to climb in their cage and dig in the ground like chicken.
They are very curious and not shy at all, they are always the first birds that come to see if there is something new in the cage.
I have got 10 of then now, in wildcolour (green ) pied, and cinamo and cinamon pied, and since 2 weeks a lutino.
This year they had their first nest, and 4 chicken hatched and are already sold, escept for one very beautiful pied-one, even his tailfeathers are in 2 colours.
Like the other aviary birds they like seed, and insects lilke maggets or  rmealworn, all kind  of seeds , veggies and fruit

They are fond of taking a bath !

In september 2006 we were obliged to rebuild our aviray due to a rat killing at least 10 of my kakariki s and cockatiels, its now rebuild and rat- and mice safe.
We now have 6 of them and in the past two years they only had 5 chicken,
