2. Job Virgitt/Virgett JR, who was baptized in Charles Parish, York County, 2 January 1671. There are quite a few records concerning him in Essex County terminating with his will proved in 1712 in which he mentions his brother William Davis. son of Job Virgett Sr. Jr m'd Elizabeth Bendrey the widow of William Bendry. Elizabeth is the daughter of Thomas Moss and his wife Elizabeth Wales. Job Virgett 2nd wife was Elizabeth Pell.

3. Thomas Meader, who died testate in Essex County in 1717, leaving an only son, John Meader. He provided in his will that if John died without issue, certain land was to descend to Richard Shipp and left Josiah and Thomas Shipp as residuary ligatees, which provisions were carried out.

Thomas MEADOWS was born about 1673. He died about 1717. He was married to Susannah REYNOLDS (daughter of Cornelius REYNOLDS and Marjorie ? REYNOLDS) in 1698. Susannah died and Thomas married Ann SALLIS

Colonial Meadors by Victor Meador and found that John Meador had actually married a second time, to a Susannah, so Thomas is from this second marriage.

According to OUR MEADOR FAMILIES IN COLONIAL AMERICA, by Victor Paul Meador and Bernal M. Meador, "Say Ann Sallis was the second wife of Thomas, who was son of John and (great) grandson of Ambrose (who was the brother of Thomas the imigrant). Thomas' first wife was Susannah Reynolds.
Thomas, the son of John and grandson of Ambrose, was born about 1673, as he was of legal age by 1695. Nevertheless, it was not until 1698 that he married, becoming the second husband of Susannah Reynolds, the widow of Thomas Goss and mother of John and Sarah Goss. By her there was one son, John Meador, born between 1700 and 1706. Susannah is last found in 1705, but apparently died within the next few years. At the writing of his will in 1717, Thomas is found to be married to Ann Sallis. In that will, John Sallis is named as Thomas's brother-in-law. The will, written January 29,1717, was probated January 31,1717. Ann, his widow, then married Thomas Ayers.

"In 1705, Susanna Meadors, wife of Thomas Meadors and daugther of Cornelius Reynolds, also James and Sarah Reynolds, sold 300 acres given by Cornelius Reynolds in his will of 1683 [my note: was it 1683 or 1684, as Boddie previously stated?]. (Fleet 12, Essex BK 1703-06, pp. 76-77).
John Goss (grandson of Cornelius Reynolds) made his will June 11, 1705. He gave "all lands to his sister Sarah Coghill" all personal property to my mother Susanna Meador. Father-in-law Thomas Meadoes sole exr." (Id-95) Thomas Meadors gave his bond as executor on June 11, 1705 and Frederick Coghill was his surety (this line is not continued)."
Thomas MEADOR died some time after 1705, given that he gave his bond as executor of the younger John GOSS's Will.

Thomas (The Younger) Meader mother Sarah Will"
This latter phrase is found in two documents made by a Sarah Meador, in which, describing herself as the widow of Thomas Meador the Younger, she declared her obligation to her three children in April, 1662. Those contemplating remarriage commonly made such declarations. In the first document, Sarah provided for the maintenance and education of her children, promising them four years of schooling apiece. (At this period, most children received only a year). In the second, Sarah gave her son John Meador a yoke of oxen and "one gun, seven foot by the barrel", to be delivered to him when he came of age. To her daughter Susannah she gave a red cow called "Cherry" and her increase. To her daughter Mary she gave a black heifer called "Slippery". We learn also that Susannah was several years less than 11 years old, and that Mary was less than 9 years old. Since the marriage of Thomas Meador the Younger (or orphan) took place no earlier than 1657 or 1658, all three children would have been infants at that time.

Victor states “While it is true that a Thomas Meador once owned 300 acres north of the Rappahannock. This Thomas was the son of Ambrose Meador" This Thomas father of Thomas the younger, the father of Thomas the Orphan note by Janet.
Yet the deed from Henry and Sarah Awbrey states that the property was from the purchase by Ambrose Meador out of the grant to James Williamson and from the portion sold by Ambrose to his son Thomas.
This land was past down in the Meador family from Ambrose to son Thomas who died 1655 and Thomas the younger who was died before 1662 .

Thomas the Oprhan has wife Sarah, Sarah widow of Thomas Orphan who marries Henry Awbrey.
Victor states "The Subdivision and the further sales of this deed could easily lead one to believe that Sarah had inherited the property was the widow of Thomas, son of Ambrose. But a more likely explanation is that the property was reassembled by Henry Awbrey into a single tract, for which no records remain. In any case, it would be note that Thomas, son of Ambrose and Thomas son of Thomas, both must have died about the same time which certainly adds to the possible confusion between the two men.”
There might three Sarah married to Three Thomas. This may couse the confussion but I not seen who the First Thomas wife name was because she not mention in his will. It only states my wife.

Marks for these oxen were registered and marks for a black heifer were registered later for "John Meadors, son of Thomas Meadors of Hoskins Creek." The two registrations are almost the same, except interchanged from each ear. John did not occupy the grant lands of his father while a child, but he did so upon attaining adult status. John Meador, was less than ten years old, and records do not reveal the details of how his step-father, Henry Awbrey, fared during these times. But it is a matter of record that Col. Thomas Goodrich and his son Benjamin were supporters of Bacon, for which they were fined 50,000 pounds of tobacco each and ordered to recant before the court with a rope about their necks. This Col. Goodrich did, but with a token cord instead of a rope, to demonstrate his contempt for the Governor's orders.
The Rappahannock Indians had fled from their villages behind the settlers on the east bank of the river to sanctuary several miles upstream. In their absence, the lands were taken up by white settlers, and the Indians could not return. Decimated and broken, though having remained peaceful during the whole affair, their cause was championed by Henry Awbrey, the senior member of the county court. Enlisting the help of about a dozen settlers, they were relocated, probably on Henry Awbrey's large grant lands, where there is a place which is till called Indian Neck. There is also a Rappahannock Indian church at Beasley; and there are reports that traces of an Indian settlement have been found on the Meador plantation , but no records have been found to this effect. "Participating in the resettlement in January, 1684 were Henry Awbrey, who served as overseer and go-between as well as furnishing his boat; Robert Tomlin, Jr., who supplied a sloop and a smaller boat; and several men including (3) John Meador. John was reimbursed by the court for 9 days service and the use of his horse .

this to be recorded for John Meaders with both male and female increase -

[Sarah Meador gave her son John Meador a yoke of oxen and a gun. Marks for
these oxen were registered and marks for a black heifer were registered
later for "John Meadors, son of Thomas Meadors of Hoskins Creek." The two
registrations are almost the same, except interchanged from each ear. John
did not occupy the grant lands of his father while a child, but he did so
upon attaining adult status. This coincided with his marriage between July
1677 and February 1678 to Elizabeth White].

Virginia, cooper, out of ye kindness and affection I have and beareth my
sonne in law John Meador who married my daughter Elizabeth White have given
and forever made over and by these presents doe give unto ye said John
Meador & Elizabeth his now wife and their heirs fover all my platation I now
live upon together with all my real and personall estate in ye County
aforesd To have and enjoy ye same from and after ye day of death and decease
of me ye sd Richard White and Mary my now wife to him ye sd John Meador
first paying all such debts as I shall justly happen to owe at ye time of my
death and decently burying me and my wife and during ye naturall lives of me

1661 Sep - Old Rap. Deed Book 1:201:
"The records of Old Rappahannock County told about a terrible raid that took
place in September of 1661 at the plantation of Richard White which layed on
the North side of Hoskins Creek in Old Rappahannock County, Virginia.
Richard White's son, Thomas and two men were brutally murdered. A committee
of twelve men gave an accounting of this gruesome raid:
"We, the undersigned, being impaneled and sworn to enquire into the deaths
of the Englishmen lately murthered at the house of Richard White in th e
freshes of Rappanhannock County - we went up to the said plantation and
viewed the bodies and found the body of ___ massacred in the house of White
- his skull splitt on the forehead down to the ___ - His skull beaten in the
side of the head over the eyes - moreover near the door of the said house we
found the body of Thomas White, Sonn of Richard - striped naked with his
skull beaten in over the eye - also we found the skull of Daniel Pigness,
servant to the lord Richard White beaten in the side of his head with an axe
as we conceive by the bigness of the hole in the skull...also we found that
part of the body of said Pigness was carried away by varments but the hind
quarters from the loins we found dragged in a swamp by which said
consequences of the said action and by the examination of an English servant
of Whites named John Evans that escaped out of the house at that time when
the murther was committed - we do all agree in our verdict that it was the
Indians - also by the report of an Indian of Nanzemum named George - a great
man of the side towne that went with us to the plantation the same time when
we viewed the dead bodyes...he told us that the same day that the murther
was committed he found the footing of divers Indians going from the said
plantation"
Victor states "Soon after his marriage, John Meador sold the 320 acre grant
of his father to Ebenezer Stanfield , which was inherited
by Rebekah Stanfield, and when she married John Williams,
Jr. they sold it to James Fullerton . It never again was
in the possession of the Meador family. John Meador made
the 450 acre grant lands his home plantation, and this was
the land later inherited by his children and grandchildren.
"In 1689, John purchase from Edwin Thacker of Middlesex
County and additional 105 acres which adjoined the 450
acre plantation on the south. He also received and
additional 190 acres adjoining this 450 acre tract for the
transportation of four persons to the colony . And for the
transportation of one more, and additional headright grant
of 50 acres on April 21,1690 which adjoined his own land and
that of Henry Awbrey on the main "swamp" of Hoskins Creek.
"Thus we see that by the early 1690's John Meador held at
least 1095 acres of land centered on the grant of 450 acres
and straddling Hoskins Creek just upstream from the location
now called Cheatwood Millpond.
Elizabeth White Meador, John's wife, died before
the close of 1694. Anticipating a second marriage and
wanting to ensure their rights of inheritance, John made a
deed of gift on December 10,1695 , dividing the bulk of his
holdings among his children. Through this deed, we learn
that he had by this time sons Richard, Thomas. John Jr.,
and Hope; and daughters Rachel, Elizabeth and Esther. These
lands were "never to be sold or disposed of, but to remaine
from heir to heir as long as there can be one of ye Meadors
found alive". However, we will see that within a few years
the major portion of these lands passed into other hands.
"The firstborn son of John and Elizabeth was Richard, named
for his grandfather White. He is first named in a deed of
gift by Abraham Coombe on October 16,1683 (previously
reviewed in the chapter on Ambrose Meador). In adult life,
Richard followed the "cooper" profession of his grandfather
as well. The order of birth of the other children cannot be
determined.
All left heirs to receive their share of these undivided
lands except Hope, who died before 1721 without issue. The
150 acres given to him would appear to have been the
easternmost portion of the 450 acre grant, and reverted to
his father upon his death. It is not clear whether (3( John
retained a portion of the 1095 acres for himself, or if it
was all deeded to those children he had by Elizabeth.
"Widower John Meador then married a second time, but the name
of this second wife cannot be determined. To this second
marriage were born two more daughters and four more sons
(making thirteen children in all). They were Dinah, Mary,
Jonas, Job, Jason and Joshua. It has been suggested that
the latter two were twins, because of the statement in
John's will that "they are to be of age at 17", seemingly
implying that they were of the same age.
Nearing 63 years of age, John Meador became aware of his
approaching death, and made his will October 17,1721 . It
was presented in court for probate November 21,1721. The
will recognized the surviving children of his first marriage
with token bequests of a shilling apiece to Thomas, Rachel
and Elizabeth. The other children by Elizabeth White,
namely Richard, John Jr. and Esther, as well as Hope, had
preceded him in death. Of the children of his second
marriage, Dinah received a shilling and Mary a gold ring.
Jonas was to receive a small piece of land, with the
remaining lands to be equally divided among the four
surviving sons. The disposition of these lands will be
covered more thoroughly in the discussion of each of these
children which follows.
The last resting place of John Meador and his family is at
the present writing unknown. A visit to the old plantation
now reveals no trace of the houses of cemeteries that once
may have been there. The lands are now occupied by a large
wheat field and by thick woods. A thorough exploration of
the area may reveal the remnants of these early ancestors
which is not apparent to the casual visitor. But certainly
this wheat field of today must be the very ground once
cleared by our ancestor, John Meador, planter, and the lands
upon which he grew tobacco and Indian corn three hundred
years ago."

Esther married William BOURNE. William was born in 1691 in Essex Co., VA.
John also married 2nd Mrs. Aubrey MEADOR about 1694. Aubrey was born about 1665. She died before 17 Oct 1721. Mary AWBREY b: 1678 m: Aft. 1694 d: Bef. 17 October 1721 in Essex Co., VA. Note from Janet: I have a copy Henry Awbrey will and he had no daughter name Mary or a daughter. Henry names his 2nd wife as Mary, his son Richard, Katherine Long the daughter of Alice Long (att Sheppey) and Francis Awbrey the son of his brother John.
Now Richard did have daughter name Mary her age is not know. But this what Richard said in his will in 1697 "Item I give to my daughter Mary one Negro Called Maria fifty pounds Ster. and four cowes and Calves to be paid att the age of Eighteene yeares or the day of Marriages a feather bed and furniture and my silver cup the money to be paid out of the estates I give my wife.If Mary was not the daughter of Richard. There is another Awbrey was Francis that is mention in Henry Awbrey will. What is know about him is that Fancis is son of John Awbrey and married Francis Tanner. Their children are on the Awbrey page. Fancis did have brother John but his family is know. I descend from this John Awbrey from my mother side of the family. The Meador and Awbrey link is my father side of the family. Here is another thought could Mrs Awbrey be the wife of Henry Awbrey?

"JOHN MEADOR was a politically powerful favorite of Royal Governor Berkeley
and benefitted from a number of grants from the Royal government along the
Rappahannock River in the 1660s. He was not a Puritan, but a Royalist. This
is significant because it seems to indicate that JOSEPH CALLAWAY and the
other 3 men was associated with the Royalist political faction and not the
Puritans."

Know all men by these presents that I, John Meador Senior widower, in ye
county of Essex in ye Parish of South Farnham, for ye love I bear to my
children that I had by my wife Elizabeth [White] Meador deceased, I doe
hereby give them such parsell of land that I shall set downe severall by
themselves. All ye land that I have on ye West side of a branch that goeth
by ye name of a great branch I do give to my son Richard Meador and my son
John Meador it shall be divided as I shall see fit between them as near as I
can divide it to they and their heirs lawfully begotten of their owne bodies
for ever.
A parcell of land beginning at a Cole Spring by my orchard fence and
running West and by north till it meets with ye great branch, so along ye
great branch till it comes to ye maine swamp of ye creeke, then downe ye
swamp till it comes to ye Cole Spring branch, then up ye branch where it
begun, being a long neck of land, I do give to my son Thomas Meador and his
heirs lawfully begotten of his owne body for ever.
A parcell of land beginning at my uppermost line by John Evans land by
ye head of a branch at a marked White oake and running downe ye branch till

have within my bounds of ye east side of that branch being a great deal of
old fields belonging to it I doe give to my son Hope Meador and his heirs
lawfully begotten of his body forever.
I doe give to my daughter Rachell Meador one hundred and five acres
of land that I bought of Mr. Edwin Thacker to she and her heirs for ever.
A parcell of land lying into the neck the north side of the Creek
which my father in law Richard White gave to me by deed of Gift I doe by the
virtue of that Deed of Gift I doe give to my daughter Elizabeth Meader ye
second neck & my daughter Esther Meader the neck that has ye Housing and
orchards to them and their heirs lawfully begotten of their owne bodies
forever.
The land given unto my sons and daughters never to be sold nor
disposed of but to ramaine from heir to heir as long as there can be one of
ye Meaders found alive, if it ye Lords will to call any of my sons or

JB:DINAH Meador, daughter of John Meador Sr and 2/ Mary (?) Awbrey
Dinah was probably the first child of her father's second marriage, born
about 1696-7 in Old Rappahannock County, Virginia and died between 1741/3 in
Caroline County, Virginia. In her father's will of 1721, she was given only
one shilling. Apparently this was because of her husband. Her mother,
Mary (?) Awbrey was a daughter of Henry Awbrey, a wealthy merchant. Dinah
was the sister of Jonas and Jason Meadors. Jason had land dealings with
JEFFREY CROWLEY (sometimes shown as CRAWLEY).
Dinah married about 1720 to George Tribble of Essex, son of Peter Trible
(Essex Will Bk 6:142 dated 6 Apr 1738; probated 16 Jul 1739). Peter Trible
of Southfarnham Parish in Essex County owned land near the Road that led
from Piscataway Ferry to the Ferry over Hoskins Creek. The John Burnett (I)
family lived on Piscataway Creek and the John Gatewood family lived on
Hoskins Creek with a ferry going between the two. John Burnett II married
Amee Gatewood. The Meadors were friends and neighbors of the two families.
George and Dinah was found living in Spotsylvania County, Virginia by 2
October 1722 when he witnessed a deed for Larkin Chew. One month later,
George purchased 228 acres from Larkin Chew in Spotsylvania County, although
George had bought property in King and Queen County, he was still in Spots.
County where he witnessed several more deeds for Larkin Chew. Finally by
1725, he and Dinah were living in King and Queen County when he sold the Nov
1722 land he purchased from Chew and then followed other family members to
Caroline County by November of the following year. At this time, "George
Tribble was fined in court for not keeping his road in repair." Since
Dinah's brother Jonas Meador was appointed to take over in George's place,
Jonas and brother Jason were probably living in the same neighborhood.
George and Dinah Trible appear together as witnesses to the will of Abraham
Brown On 14 Sep 1735 (Caroline Court Order Bk 1732-1740, p.275).
Dinah died there between 1741 and 1744 as on the latter date, George
Trible was married to Ann (last name illegible). Fearful that George would
embezzle the estate of Ann's late husband, two of the administrators
demanded extra security from George and Anne Trible (Caroline Court Order Bk
1740-1746, p.306 dated 11 Aug 1744).
There were several children of this marriage, including:

3) Dinah Tribble
4) Rev. Andrew Trible (Tribble) was born 1741 in Caroline Co, Va;
married Sally Ann Burris. An "Old Ironsides" Baptist minister, he was a
Chaplain in the Virginia Line during the Revolution. He died in 1822 in
Clark County, Kentucky. His descendants are well documented by the Kentucky
Historical Society (Register of the Kentucky Historical Soc, Vol 24:187).

In the name of God, Amen; I, Joel Meador of the County of Amelia in the Parish of Raleigh, being very weak and ancient, doth make this my last will and testament.
First, I give my soul to Almight God who first gave it to me, and my body to be buried decently at the discretion of my executors, and my worldly estate which the Almighty bestowed on me I give and bequeath unto my beloved wife and her two sons, Archer Meador and Anderson Meador, if that my wife shall abide by this, my last will and testament. If she shall refuse to do so and object to same, the land I assigned to my wife and children, Archer and Anderson, bounded as follows:
Beginning at Joshua Rucker's line at a beach and running up to the mouth of John Harris's spring branch, then up Henry Meador ('s) branch to a black gum and along said Henry's line to Jonah (Reynold's?) line along said line to a Spanish oak; then along a new line to a poplar, then along a dividing line I have already made to Joh Gill's line to a red oak; then along the said Gill's line to Samuel Cobb's line to Joshua Rucker's line, and along said line to the beginning.
I give and bequeath unto the children I had by my first wife five shillings each. My will and desire is that my wife Agness shall enjoy the rest of my estate during her natural life or widowhood, and if that she shall marry, it is my will and desire that my said estate already lent to my beloved wife be equally divided amongst my wife and the four children I had by her, Archer, Anderson, Patty, and Nancy, and or my sons Archer and Anderson to have two years schooling each. In the Name of God, Amen, I Frances Meador of Cumberland, being in proper health and in my natural sences, do make and constitute my last will and testament as follows, and by these presents do disannul any other will or wills whatsoever before made by me or by me ever assigned

I, John Meador of Bedford County and State of Virginia, do hereby make this my last will and testament in manner and form following, that is to say;
Item: I give and bequeath to my son Joel Negro woman Hannah, not be taken out of reasonable bounds of her companion against her will. I also give him one hundred dollars & one feather bed and furniture. Item: I give to my daughter Sarah Holloway a Negro man Archa, not to be taken out of reasonable bounds of his companion against his will. Item: I give to my son John Meador Negro man Beary, not to be taken out of reasonable bounds of his companion against his will. I, Jehue Meadors Sen: of the County of Cumberland do make & publish this my last will and testament. I give to my daughter, Frances Meadors, one negroe man by the name of Harry to her and her heirs forever. I give to my granddaughter Mary Boatright my negroe girl by the name of Corsey and should my granddaughter die ? leaving issue of her body it is my will that the said negroe Corsey and her issue shall return to my estate & be equally divided among my six children or their heirs (to wit) Anne Robinson, Patty Anderson, Sally Boatright, Joseph Meadors, Jehue Meadors and Frances Meadors. I give to my grandson Jehue Meadors, the son of Jonas Meador the sum of sixty pounds to be raised from my estate for the purpose of educating him. It is my will that the rest of my estate consisting of Dicke, Suke, Hannah, Old Delphia, my stock of cattle, horses, hogs, sheep, plantation utencils, & the interest I have in the negroes I bought of my son Jonas which he held in the right of his wife Polly who was Polly Robinson, be equally divided among my six children (to wit) Anne Robinson, Polly Anderson, Sally Boatright, Jehue Meadors, Joseph Meadors, & Franky Meadors, subjecting the said estate first ot the payment of such debts as may be proper to be paid & the legacy of sixty pounds which is left to my grandson Juhue Meadors the son of Jonas. Testament in manner and form following that is to say:
I give to MY SONS JAMES MEADOR and JOSEPH MEADOR that is to say

between them as they think proper and in consideration of this legacy they
are to give to each of THEIR SISTERS, that is to say $50 each: FRANCIS

In the name of God, Amen. I Joab Meador of the county of Pittsylvania being weak in body but of perfect mind and memory, thinks be given unto (-------). Victor states “Isham Meador, son of Joel (5) Meador of Franklin Co. VA. Isham migrated to Tennessee and died in Macon Co. It is only through his application for a pension, due on his service in the Revolution (Note by Janet. On Meador II is his Pension), that a few of his children are reliably known. According to a scribbled document left by on his grandsons, Isham had 16 Children by his two wives. Isham had 8 boys and 6 girls by his first wife Biddy Bratcher/Bradshaw and 1 boy and 1 girl by his 2nd wife Widow Sullivan. In the 1820 and 1830 Census Isham is found in Summer Co., TN. His widow Martha applied for a widow’s pension Apr 4,1854. In 1850 Census Martha age 60 living with her son Peter (age 27) and his wife Mary (age 23) By other data, those ages should have been about 71 for Martha and Peter should be 32. He died on 10 Oct 1843 in Macon Co., TN and was buried in Simmons Cem., Macon Co., TN. When Anna died, Thomas deeded all his land to children on Oct 5,1829 in exchance for their promises to support him in his old age but sometime later Thomas sued his children to recover his land. The settlement was for each child to adjudged to pay him $20 annually for his life. The farm could not be recovered for it had been deeded to his son Christopher. Before the suit Thomas married for the second time to widow Sarah E Lucas. There must have been hard feelings between Thomas and his children for when he died he deed his land and animals to his step son George Lucas or was this man thing. You know new wife and old children.
