Ships records found in book “ PASSENGER AND IMMIGRATION LIST INDEX” Edited by P. William Filby with Mary K. Meyer.

Ambrose Mader on ship in 1636, ,Thomas Meades 1636 and John Mead 1636 But I do not think this my Ambrose for they came with headrights in 1633

The following is just a few of books that have been written the Meades/Meador Families

"Genealogical Records of Some Members of The Meador Family who are descendants of Thomas Meador of Virginia." Daniel Burton Meador, Mennonite Press, 1968. It begins with Thomas Meader, Sr. and continues for 13 generations (until the present day which was 1968).

"Our Meador Families in Colonial America--As found in the records of Isle of Wight, Lancaster, (Old) Rappahannock, Richmond, Essex and Caroline Counties, Virginia." Victor Paul Meador and Bernal M. Meador, Published by authors, 3rd Printing, 1986. The book goes over the origins of Meador in America. It begins with Ambrose Meador. It covers the time period of the 1500s until the 1700s. It only deals with Virginia. In the back are charts of related families. These include: Allen, Bourne, Gatewood, Gouldman, Gregory, Reeves, Rust, Corrie, Coombes, Underwood, Williamson, and Waggoner. Indexed. (Please note that there are no records after the 1700s

A good friend of my name June Bork help me some documents, I would like to thank her. When use the documents that June Bork give me I will use JB for her.

First of all I would like to thank Mr. Victor Paul Meador for let me copy some of the things that he has found and published in his book “MEADOR FAMILES OF VIRGINIA AND POINTS WEST”. I also have few pages of "OUR MEADOR FAMILIES IN COLONIAL AMERICA" by Victor Paul Meador and Bernal M. Meador. If any would like write Mr. Meador. His address is on the net. When do post Mr. Meador findings I will use VPM for his finds.

Ambrose Meador/Mador/Meades b abt 1572, England d After 1658, what is now Lancaster County, Virginia.

Victor Paul Meador in his book MEADOR FAMILES OF VIRGINIA AND POINTS WEST”. states:

"Ambrose Meador (d.ca.1661/1663) immigrated from England to Warrisquicke (later Isle of Wight) County, Virginia in 1633 and moved about 1649 to Lancaster County, Virginia. Descendants lived in Virginia and elsewhere."

Thomas Davis of Warwicksquacyk to Ambrose Meador and John White of the Pagan Shore, 50 acres of land lying Warwicksqueake, beginning at upper Red Point and extending easterly down the said Creek; was given said Davis by patent 6 day of March 1633, the land abutting northerly upon said creek and southerly into the main woods, 18 July 1636.

VPM: "Every immigrant to the colony in the 17th century was granted 50 acres as a "headright" to get them started. But often these grants were assigned to a benefactor who had paid for their passage from England to the colony. There, we find that Ambrose Meador had on 1 Jun 1636, surrendered to a Peter Johnson in Warrisquicke [Warrosquyoake] Co. (later [1637] Isle of Wight Co.) 150 acres of headright land due for the immigration of Ambrose, his wife and a servant.

It should be noted that in many cases delays of several years occurred in the official recording of such documents, therefore, the actual date of Ambrose's arrival could have been a few years previous to 1636. Soon after the recording of this headright, other records show that Ambrose Meador in partnership with John White purchased 50 acres of land from Thomas Davis. Then, in 1649, he bought 300 acres from Ambrose Bennett on the south side of the Pajan River. These purchases were in what became Isle of Wight in the Virginia colony, south of the James River. It is evident that other purchases were made for when records no longer exist, on the basis of reference to land that Ambrose owned at "Ambrose Meador's Point", cited as a landmark.

Adjoining these lands of Ambrose Meador on the Pajan River were grants of 300 acres and 600 acres to Richard Bennett, and 1100 acres to Ambrose Bennett. Much can be learned from these associations. All of the above mentioned men with whom Ambrose Meador dealt and whose lands adjoined his own were prominent members of the early Puritan Church.

As we attempt to recreate Ambrose Meador's background, it is quite significant that in Virginia he settled near and dealt with Ambrose Bennett, a relative of Edward Bennett, who was one of the Elders of the "Ancient Church" faction of the Puritan movement. Edward owned a fleet of ships that transported and supplied many of the Puritan colonials. Edward married into the wealthy Bourne family and was granted thousands of acres for transporting hundreds of colonists and their servants. His relative Richard Bennett was overseer of his plantations and later became Governor of Virginia. A neighbor of Ambrose Meador's was Thomas Jordan, a prominent member of the Puritan movement.

The last record of Ambrose Meador in Isle of Wight Co. is in 1649, when he sold land to Ralph Warrener on 9 April 1649. Ambrose soon followed the Puritan colonists to Lancaster Co. on the Rappahannock River. He is first found there on a list of tithers on 24 Oct 1653. He settled on the northeast side of the river in the Totuskey Creek area. On 3 Sep 1656 he purchased from James Williamson the lower 1,000 acres at the 1800 grant on Willing Creek (Totuskey Creek). The neighbors here besides Williamson included Bryer, William Underwood, Abraham Moore, Thomas Robinson, and William Denby from the Isle of Wight colony.

The 1,000 acres purchased by Ambrose Meador included Accokeek Point of the mouth of Totuskey Creek, across the river and a few miles downstream from present Tappahannock. Of this 1,000 acres, he soon sold 300 acres to Thomas Robinson and 300 acres to his son, Thomas Meador. He retained 300 acres for himself as a home plantation, probably near the present site of Wellford, which he appears to have named "Accokeek".

This 400 acres was then inherited by his son, John Meador, and later traded by John to Robert Tomlin on 3 May 1663 for 500 acres of land on Peumansend Creek in what is now Caroline Co. Evidently Ambrose Meador was dead by this date.

His last reference in the records is 24 Dec 1661 when he shared a purchase with his son, Thomas. His wife was mentioned (but not by name) in the deed to Thomas Robinson in 1656, but may have preceded him in death. If Ambrose Meador left a will, as is likely, it has not survived the loss of Lancaster Co. records, nor is his last resting place known.

I was send Ambrose land records:

VPM: "Thomas Meador (d.1655) immigrated from England to Jamestown?, Virginia? in the early 1630s, with a possible brother Ambrose Meador. VPM rule this Thomas Ambrose son but this settles with Ambrose. Early 1630s is 1636.

“ PASSENGER AND IMMIGRATION LIST INDEX” Edited by P. William Filby with Mary K. Meyer.

Thomas Meades 1636

Thomas settled in Isle of Wight County, and moved about 1650 to the north- east shore of the Rappahannock River (in present Richmond County). No supporting evidence has been found of the ancestry of Thomas in England, though many believe his ancestry lived in Suffolk County. "Within these three volumes are named more than 37,000 descendants of Thomas meador and their spouses, encompassing up to sixteen generations. Is this everyone descended from Thomas Meador? Certainly not ..."--Introduction (v.1, p. 1). Descendants and relatives lived in Virginia, West Virginia, Indiana, Illinois, Kentucky, Tennessee, Missouri, Kansas, Oklahoma, Texas, Arizona, California and elsewhere."

This Thomas is son of Ambrose as proven above.

“No documentation has been found to show explicitly that Thomas Meador Orphan was also know as Thomas Meador the younger. Nevertheless, the only other Thomas found in the area at that time was THOMAS, the son of AMBROSE MEADOR. It would appear that the know facts fit more logically with the conclusion that Thomas ,Orphan and Thomas the Younger were one in the same. Particularly, Thomas, Orphan, is the only one who was the son of the elder Thomas, thus requiring the description. “the Younger””

VPM does not have the following documents

"THE INDIANS and BACON'S REBELLION"

For a time, white settlement was forbidden above the Pamunkey River; later this prohibition was only for the land above the Piscattaway and Totuskey Creeks. But many settlers filed claims upon the choice river front lands, and by 1646-1650 (as detailed in the first chapter) grants were being given along the Rappahannock River on these areas. The river valley was occupied principally by the Rappahannock Indians, with a few villages of Mattaponi, Moratticoes, Totuskeys, Portobagoes, and others. These tribes were forced into the forested lands behind the mile- deep grants. Behind the grants to James Williamson, William Underwood, and the land of Thomas Meads Could this Thomas Meads be my Meads?

Note from James Williamson and William Underwood was living near Ambrose Meador in Isle of Wight. Could this Thomas Meads be the son Ambrose???

Tension between the settlers and the Indians remained high, and there were recurring raids, for which the nearby Rappahannocks received most of the blame. In February, 1654 , a small army was raised, with 100 men from Lancaster County, 40 from Northumberland, and 30 from Westmoreland to meet the threat. They met at the plantation of Thomas Meades on the eastern shore, and were to march from thence to the village of the Rappahannocks (probably near Warsaw) to ensure peace, without provoking hostilities. The outcome is not recorded, but the Rappahannocks seemingly caused no trouble.

Not so with the Doegs, the Susquahannocks, and the Senecas (from Maryland), whose numerous raids into the northern colonies caused great hardships during the 1660's and 1670's. One such raid took place in 1661 at the plantation of Richard White (who later became the father-in-law of (3) John Meador). White's plantation lay on the north side of Hoskin's Creek, opposite that of John Meador. Though Richard White and his wife Addra escaped, their son Thomas White and two men were brutally murdered. An account of the results of this raid, as viewed by a committee of twelve men, forms a gruesome record .

VPM says “It is most logical that Thomas the younger and Thomas the orphan were the same, and that Sarah Meador widow of Thomas Meador (younger) who made provision for her son “John Meador of Hoskins Creek” was the wife of Henry Awbrey and the mother of Richard Awbrey. Thus the conclusion is virtually inescapable that Sarah was the mother of both John Meador and Richard Awbrey, making them half-brothers. I am sorry to disargee with VPM The younger and the orphan are not the same. Thomas younger wife mentions Thomas who is the orphan.

Thomas the younger wife Sarah names her children in her will

VPM: States. That on Ambrose "headrights" it mention his wife and servant. (as mention below) Later he mention that Ambrose son John sign a Robert Payne's will dated 1671. Saying he was 38 at this time. This would mean John was born 1633. I do not find any thing for John that states that he son of Ambrose. John who marries Jane Combs but could be Ambrose grandson.

Abraham give John Meador Jr a calf and two cows and two calves to Mary Meador. Mary is the god-daughter of Robet Payne.

The date of John birth comes from Robert Payne's will that he witness in 1671. John mention that he was 38 at this time. Making him born 1633.

Children of John Meadors and Jane Coombes are:

1. Mary Meadows. goddaughter of Payne

2. John MEADORS died after 1683.

3.Thomas Meadows, born 1673; died Abt. 1717. He was married to Susannah REYNOLDS

Generation II for John Meadors family

John MEADORS died after 1683. He was married to Susannah Wyatt widow of Thomas Brooks in 1672. Susannah Wyatt married 1st Thomas Brook(e)s, 2nd Job Virgett, 3rd John Meador/Meadoes/, & 4th William Davis. She had one child by each husband. Susannah died about 1699.

She was widowed all four times. She was born about 1649/51 and died sometime between February 1699 & February 1700. She was probably born about 1650 and the indications are that she had kindred in one of the counties which border the Chesapeake Bay.

Thomas Brookes was the first husband of Susanna, and during their brief married life they resided in York County, Virginia, where he died before 28 July 1669 leaving a 100 acre plantation which descended by law to his only child, Elizabeth Brookes, subsequently the wife of Josiah Shipp, of Essex County, Virginia

Susanna was yet in her teens when she married as her second husband Job Virgitt (Vergett), of Cheesman Creek, York County, by whom she had a son, Job Virgitt, who was baptized 2 January 1671

Though the place of their marriage has not been discovered, the official court records offer ample proof that Mrs. Susanna Brookes as Virgitt married her third husband, John Meader (Meadoes, Meadows, &c.), an early land pattentee of Rappahannock County, by whom she also had one child. On 17 April 1667 John Meaders and Henry Peters were jointly issued a patent for 4,200 acres of land on the south side of the Rappahannock River for the transportation of eighty-four persons into the colony.

John Meaders must also have died when a comparatively young man, and the already thrice wed Susanna married as her fourth and last husband a Mr. Davis and by 1691 appears as a widow on the Rappahannock County Court Records. By Mr. Davis she had issue one son.

The unique will of Mrs. Susanna Brooks Virgitt Meader Davis was written 14 February 1699 and admitted to probate before the Essex Court 30 October 1700. Her "worldly estate" was disposed of as follows:

According to OUR MEADOR FAMILIES IN COLONIAL AMERICA, by Victor Paul Meador and Bernal M. Meador, "Say Ann Sallis was the second wife of Thomas, who was son of John and (great) grandson of Ambrose (who was the brother of Thomas the imigrant). Thomas' first wife was Susannah Reynolds.

Thomas, the son of John and grandson of Ambrose, was born about 1673, as he was of legal age by 1695. Nevertheless, it was not until 1698 that he married, becoming the second husband of Susannah Reynolds, the widow of Thomas Goss and mother of John and Sarah Goss. By her there was one son, John Meador, born between 1700 and 1706. Susannah is last found in 1705, but apparently died within the next few years. At the writing of his will in 1717, Thomas is found to be married to Ann Sallis. In that will, John Sallis is named as Thomas's brother-in-law. The will, written January 29,1717, was probated January 31,1717. Ann, his widow, then married Thomas Ayers.

Thomas (The Younger) Meader mother Sarah Will"

This latter phrase is found in two documents made by a Sarah Meador, in which, describing herself as the widow of Thomas Meador the Younger, she declared her obligation to her three children in April, 1662. Those contemplating remarriage commonly made such declarations. In the first document, Sarah provided for the maintenance and education of her children, promising them four years of schooling apiece. (At this period, most children received only a year). In the second, Sarah gave her son John Meador a yoke of oxen and "one gun, seven foot by the barrel", to be delivered to him when he came of age. To her daughter Susannah she gave a red cow called "Cherry" and her increase. To her daughter Mary she gave a black heifer called "Slippery". We learn also that Susannah was several years less than 11 years old, and that Mary was less than 9 years old. Since the marriage of Thomas Meador the Younger (or orphan) took place no earlier than 1657 or 1658, all three children would have been infants at that time.

To all etc. Whereas now know ye that I the said Sir William Berkeley, Knight, Governor of Viginia, give and grant unto Thomas Meador, three hundred and twenty acres of land, situated on the south side of Hoskins Creek towards the head thereof in the County of Rappahannock, and extended itself from a marked red oak standing in a small neck by the main run side of creek aforesaid and nigh unto the plantation of John Gillet, thence by the said run side thirty two poles unto a marked oak on the westernmost point of the said neck thence along the northernmost side at Beaver Dam until you meet with a line of marked trees that leadeth unto a poplar by the edge of the said Dam forty-eight poles, thence with the said line South by West. Two hundred and seventy-two poles to marked pine on fallowing Ground. Thence East by South one hundred and twenty-five poles to meet with the Westermost line of marked trees belonging to John Gregory, which divides this and the land of the said Gregory, thence Northeast down to Hoskins Creek aforesaid and so finally parallel with the said Creek, one hundred eighty-one poles unto the marked Red Oak first above mentioned. The said land being due unto the said Meador for Transportation of Seven person etc. To have and To Hold & Held Yeilding Pay & provided & dated the second June, one thousand, six hundred and sixty-three (June 2,1663)

To all etc. now know ye, that I the said Sir William Berkeley, Knight, Governor of Virginia, give and grant unto Thomas Meador Orphan, four hundred and fifty acres of land in Lancaster County on the South side of the head of Hoskins Creek, beginning at a poplar standing by the side of a Beaver Dam near the Indian path and running South by West two hundred and fifty poles. Thence parallel to the dam West by North four hundred and fifty poles to the dam to the first mentioned tree. The said land being first granted to Thomas Browning by patent dated the thirteenth of November, one thousand, six-hundred and fifty-seven (13 Nov., 1657) and by him assigned to John Cooke and by Cooke assigned to Thomas Meador.

Deceased by his will given to the said Thomas Meader etc. To Have and To Hold etc. To be Held etc. Yielding etc Paying etc. Provided etc Date the ninth of April one thousand, six hundred, sixty-four ( 9 April, 1664)

Victor states “While it is true that a Thomas Meador once owned 300 acres north of the Rappahannock. This Thomas was the son of Ambrose Meador" This Thomas father of Thomas the younger, the father of Thomas the Orphan note by Janet.

Yet the deed from Henry and Sarah Awbrey states that the property was from the purchase by Ambrose Meador out of the grant to James Williamson and from the portion sold by Ambrose to his son Thomas.

This land was past down in the Meador family from Ambrose to son Thomas who died 1655 and Thomas the younger who was died before 1662 .

Thomas the younger has wife Sarah.

Thomas the Oprhan has wife Sarah, Sarah widow of Thomas Orphan who marries Henry Awbrey.

Victor states "The Subdivision and the further sales of this deed could easily lead one to believe that Sarah had inherited the property was the widow of Thomas, son of Ambrose. But a more likely explanation is that the property was reassembled by Henry Awbrey into a single tract, for which no records remain. In any case, it would be note that Thomas, son of Ambrose and Thomas son of Thomas, both must have died about the same time which certainly adds to the possible confusion between the two men.”

There might three Sarah married to Three Thomas. This may couse the confussion but I not seen who the First Thomas wife name was because she not mention in his will. It only states my wife.

Victor states "In the a document: Sarah gave son John Meador a yoke of oxen and “one gun, seven foot by the barrel” to be delivered to him when his of age. Daughter Susannah she gave a red cow call “Cherry” and her increase. Her daughter Mary she gave a black heifer called “Slippery.” We all so learn that Susannah was several years less than 11 years old and May was less than 9 years old. Since Thomas and Sarah marriage took place no earlier than 1657 or 1658 all the children would have been infants at that time.”

John Meador, was less than ten years old, and records do not reveal the details of how his step-father, Henry Awbrey, fared during these times. But it is a matter of record that Col. Thomas Goodrich and his son Benjamin were supporters of Bacon, for which they were fined 50,000 pounds of tobacco each and ordered to recant before the court with a rope about their necks. This Col. Goodrich did, but with a token cord instead of a rope, to demonstrate his contempt for the Governor's orders.

The Rappahannock Indians had fled from their villages behind the settlers on the east bank of the river to sanctuary several miles upstream. In their absence, the lands were taken up by white settlers, and the Indians could not return. Decimated and broken, though having remained peaceful during the whole affair, their cause was championed by Henry Awbrey, the senior member of the county court. Enlisting the help of about a dozen settlers, they were relocated, probably on Henry Awbrey's large grant lands, where there is a place which is till called Indian Neck. There is also a Rappahannock Indian church at Beasley; and there are reports that traces of an Indian settlement have been found on the Meador plantation , but no records have been found to this effect. "Participating in the resettlement in January, 1684 were Henry Awbrey, who served as overseer and go-between as well as furnishing his boat; Robert Tomlin, Jr., who supplied a sloop and a smaller boat; and several men including (3) John Meador. Richard White's land was adjoining John Gatewood (SR), Thomas Wheeler, and Richard Gregory.

Elizbeth had brother name Thomas.

1661 Sep - Old Rap. Deed Book 1:201:

"The records of Old Rappahannock County told about a terrible raid that took place in September of 1661 at the plantation of Richard White which layed on the North side of Hoskins Creek in Old Rappahannock County, Virginia. Richard White's son, Thomas and two men were brutally murdered. A committee of twelve men gave an accounting of this gruesome raid: "We, the undersigned, being impaneled and sworn to enquire into the deaths of the Englishmen lately murthered at the house of Richard White in th e freshes of Rappanhannock County - we went up to the said plantation and viewed the bodies and found the body of ___ massacred in the house of White - his skull splitt on the forehead down to the ___ - His skull beaten in the side of the head over the eyes - moreover near the door of the said house we found the body of Thomas White, Sonn of Richard - striped naked with his skull beaten in over the eye - also we found the skull of Daniel Pigness, servant to the lord Richard White beaten in the side of his head with an axe as we conceive by the bigness of the hole in the skull...also we found that part of the body of said Pigness was carried away by varments but the hind quarters from the loins we found dragged in a swamp by which said consequences of the said action and by the examination of an English servant of Whites named John Evans that escaped out of the house at that time when the murther was committed - we do all agree in our verdict that it was the Indians - also by the report of an Indian of Nanzemum named George - a great man of the side towne that went with us to the plantation the same time when we viewed the dead bodyes...he told us that the same day that the murther was committed he found the footing of divers Indians going from the said plantation"

Victor states "Soon after his marriage, John Meador sold the 320 acre grant of his father to Ebenezer Stanfield , which was inherited by Rebekah Stanfield, and when she married John Williams, Jr. they sold it to James Fullerton . It never again was in the possession of the Meador family. John Meador made the 450 acre grant lands his home plantation, and this was the land later inherited by his children and grandchildren. "In 1689, John purchase from Edwin Thacker of Middlesex County and additional 105 acres which adjoined the 450 acre plantation on the south. He also received and additional 190 acres adjoining this 450 acre tract for the transportation of four persons to the colony . And for the transportation of one more, and additional headright grant of 50 acres on April 21,1690 which adjoined his own land and that of Henry Awbrey on the main "swamp" of Hoskins Creek. "Thus we see that by the early 1690's John Meador held at least 1095 acres of land centered on the grant of 450 acres and straddling Hoskins Creek just upstream from the location now called Cheatwood Millpond.

Elizabeth White Meador, John's wife, died before the close of 1694. Anticipating a second marriage and wanting to ensure their rights of inheritance, John made a deed of gift on December 10,1695 , dividing the bulk of his holdings among his children. Through this deed, we learn that he had by this time sons Richard, Thomas. John Jr., and Hope; and daughters Rachel, Elizabeth and Esther. These lands were "never to be sold or disposed of, but to remaine from heir to heir as long as there can be one of ye Meadors found alive". However, we will see that within a few years the major portion of these lands passed into other hands. "The firstborn son of John and Elizabeth was Richard, named for his grandfather White. He is first named in a deed of gift by Abraham Coombe on October 16,1683 (previously reviewed in the chapter on Ambrose Meador). In adult life, Richard followed the "cooper" profession of his grandfather as well. The order of birth of the other children cannot be determined.

All left heirs to receive their share of these undivided lands except Hope, who died before 1721 without issue. The 150 acres given to him would appear to have been the easternmost portion of the 450 acre grant, and reverted to his father upon his death. It is not clear whether (3( John retained a portion of the 1095 acres for himself, or if it was all deeded to those children he had by Elizabeth. "Widower John Meador then married a second time, but the name of this second wife cannot be determined. To this second marriage were born two more daughters and four more sons (making thirteen children in all). They were Dinah, Mary, Jonas, Job, Jason and Joshua. It has been suggested that the latter two were twins, because of the statement in John's will that "they are to be of age at 17", seemingly implying that they were of the same age.

Nearing 63 years of age, John Meador became aware of his approaching death, and made his will October 17,1721 . It was presented in court for probate November 21,1721. The will recognized the surviving children of his first marriage with token bequests of a shilling apiece to Thomas, Rachel and Elizabeth. The other children by Elizabeth White, namely Richard, John Jr. and Esther, as well as Hope, had preceded him in death. Of the children of his second marriage, Dinah received a shilling and Mary a gold ring. Jonas was to receive a small piece of land, with the remaining lands to be equally divided among the four surviving sons. The disposition of these lands will be covered more thoroughly in the discussion of each of these children which follows.

The last resting place of John Meador and his family is at the present writing unknown. A visit to the old plantation now reveals no trace of the houses of cemeteries that once may have been there. The lands are now occupied by a large wheat field and by thick woods. A thorough exploration of the area may reveal the remnants of these early ancestors which is not apparent to the casual visitor. But certainly this wheat field of today must be the very ground once cleared by our ancestor, John Meador, planter, and the lands upon which he grew tobacco and Indian corn three hundred years ago."

John Meador and Elizabeth White had the following children:

1. Richard MEADOR was born 1678-1679 in Old Rappahannock Co., VA; died 1716 in Essex Co., VA.

2. Thomas MEADOR was born Abt. 1680 in Old Rappahannock Co., VA; died Bef. 31 July 1758 in Essex Co., VA. m'd Elizabeth WOOD

3. Elizabeth MEADOR was born 1682-1685 in Old Rappahannock Co., VA.

4. Rachel Meadows, born 1683 in Old Rappahannock Co., VA; died in Amelia Co., VA.

5. John Meadows , Jr., born 1684 in Old Rappahannock Co., VA; died 14 May 1720 in Essex Co., VA

6.Hope MEADOR was born in 1690 in Old Rappahannock, Essex Co., VA. He died before 1721 in Essex Co., VA. Note the land deed for John Meador list below state my son Hope.

7. Esther or Hester MEADOR was born in 1691 in Essex Co., VA. She died in 1721. Esther married William BOURNE. William was born in 1691 in Essex Co., VA.

John also married 2nd Mrs. Aubrey MEADOR about 1694. Aubrey was born about 1665. She died before 17 Oct 1721. Mary AWBREY b: 1678 m: Aft. 1694 d: Bef. 17 October 1721 in Essex Co., VA. Note from Janet: I have a copy Henry Awbrey will and he had no daughter name Mary or a daughter. Henry names his 2nd wife as Mary, his son Richard, Katherine Long the daughter of Alice Long (att Sheppey) and Francis Awbrey the son of his brother John. Now Richard did have daughter name Mary her age is not know. But this what Richard said in his will in 1697 "Item I give to my daughter Mary one Negro Called Maria fifty pounds Ster. and four cowes and Calves to be paid att the age of Eighteene yeares or the day of Marriages a feather bed and furniture and my silver cup the money to be paid out of the estates I give my wife.If Mary was not the daughter of Richard. There is another Awbrey was Francis that is mention in Henry Awbrey will. What is know about him is that Fancis is son of John Awbrey and married Francis Tanner. Their children are on the Awbrey page. Fancis did have brother John but his family is know. I descend from this John Awbrey from my mother side of the family. The Meador and Awbrey link is my father side of the family. Here is another thought could Mrs Awbrey be the wife of Henry Awbrey?

Mrs Aubrey/Mary? could be the third wife of Henry Awbrey or the daughter of Richard, the son Henry and Sarah (Hoskin?) Meador Aubrey. More on who she might be above

Children of John Meadows and Mary Awbrey? are:

1/2. Dinah MEADOR was born 1696 in Essex Co., VA; died 1742 in Tennessee.

2/2. Jonas MEADOR was born 1696-1700 in Essex Co., VA; died 22 August 1768 in Cumberland Co., VA.

2/3. Mary MEADOR was born in 1700 in Essex Co., VA. She died in 1721 in Essex Co., VA.

2/4. Joshua MEADOR was born 1702 in Essex Co., VA; died 1774 in Amelia Co., VA.

2/5. Job MEADOR was born in 1704/1707 in Essex Co., VA. He died in 1774 in SC.

2/6. Jason MEADOR was born 1707 in Essex Co., VA; died Aft. 30 March 1774 in Anson Co., NC. GRANTEE Meadors, Jason. grantee. DATE 12 January 1747. Location: Amelia County. "JOHN MEADOR, 640 acres Rappahannock County: South side Rappahannock River on Beverday Southwest at the head of Hoskins' Creek, 20 April 1687, p.558. Beginning on South side of the old Beverday Southwest, near an Indian path; to a small island & etc., 450 acres granted Thomas Browning, 30 Nov 1657; assigned to John Cook, 4 May 1659; assigned to THOMAS MEDORS, 7 Aug 1659; & granted him 9 April 1664; 190 acres for transporting of 4 persons: John Chambers, JOSEPH CALLAWAY, Robert Duell, John Warrener."

"JOHN MEADOR was a politically powerful favorite of Royal Governor Berkeley and benefitted from a number of grants from the Royal government along the Rappahannock River in the 1660s. He was not a Puritan, but a Royalist. This is significant because it seems to indicate that JOSEPH CALLAWAY and the other 3 men was associated with the Royalist political faction and not the Puritans."

JB:DINAH Meador, daughter of John Meador Sr and 2/ Mary (?) Awbrey

Dinah was probably the first child of her father's second marriage, born about 1696-7 in Old Rappahannock County, Virginia and died between 1741/3 in Caroline County, Virginia. In her father's will of 1721, she was given only one shilling. Apparently this was because of her husband. Her mother, Mary (?) Awbrey was a daughter of Henry Awbrey, a wealthy merchant. Dinah was the sister of Jonas and Jason Meadors. Jason had land dealings with JEFFREY CROWLEY (sometimes shown as CRAWLEY).

Dinah married about 1720 to George Tribble of Essex, son of Peter Trible (Essex Will Bk 6:142 dated 6 Apr 1738; probated 16 Jul 1739). Peter Trible of Southfarnham Parish in Essex County owned land near the Road that led from Piscataway Ferry to the Ferry over Hoskins Creek. The John Burnett (I) family lived on Piscataway Creek and the John Gatewood family lived on Hoskins Creek with a ferry going between the two. John Burnett II married Amee Gatewood. The Meadors were friends and neighbors of the two families. George and Dinah was found living in Spotsylvania County, Virginia by 2 October 1722 when he witnessed a deed for Larkin Chew. One month later, George purchased 228 acres from Larkin Chew in Spotsylvania County, although George had bought property in King and Queen County, he was still in Spots. County where he witnessed several more deeds for Larkin Chew. Finally by 1725, he and Dinah were living in King and Queen County when he sold the Nov 1722 land he purchased from Chew and then followed other family members to Caroline County by November of the following year. At this time, "George Tribble was fined in court for not keeping his road in repair." Since Dinah's brother Jonas Meador was appointed to take over in George's place, Jonas and brother Jason were probably living in the same neighborhood. George and Dinah Trible appear together as witnesses to the will of Abraham Brown On 14 Sep 1735 (Caroline Court Order Bk 1732-1740, p.275).

Dinah died there between 1741 and 1744 as on the latter date, George Trible was married to Ann (last name illegible). Fearful that George would embezzle the estate of Ann's late husband, two of the administrators demanded extra security from George and Anne Trible (Caroline Court Order Bk 1740-1746, p.306 dated 11 Aug 1744).

There were several children of this marriage, including:

1) George Tribble II

2) Joseph Tribble

3) Dinah Tribble

4) Rev. Andrew Trible (Tribble) was born 1741 in Caroline Co, Va; married Sally Ann Burris. An "Old Ironsides" Baptist minister, he was a Chaplain in the Virginia Line during the Revolution. He died in 1822 in Clark County, Kentucky. His descendants are well documented by the Kentucky Historical Society (Register of the Kentucky Historical Soc, Vol 24:187).
