Texas, the land of the Cowboy and the Ranch. Plenty of land but owned by people who want to keep it all for themselves. Texas is the largest state in the Union but, we still couldn't find anywhere suitable to take the dogs for a walk, just 800 miles of fences.
This was our second brush with the law since our arrival in the States. Not bad for three months. We hadn't come here to see towns and cities though. What we really wanted to see was the beautiful countryside. After San Antonio, the cities started to disappear and we came face to face with nature.
First stop was San Antonio, site of The Alamo. This was the old mission/barracks where the Texans fought until the last man for their independence from the dastardly Mexicans. Unfortunately there isn't much left of it. Most of the old barracks were torn down in the 1920s to make way for such developments as Ripleys Believe It or Not and a shopping centre. What's left though is worth a visit. An interesting museum and a peaceful garden in the heart of a bustling city. Not all of us got to see The Alamo though. No dogs are allowed in the compound so Asia and Liz were asked to leave. When Liz asked 'why are no dogs allowed in the Alamo' she was escorted off the premises. Nice. See photograph below.
