| Near to our camping spot was another RV which was owned by a Vietnam Vet called Mike. He had two dogs called Lucky and Seven. On Jane's birthday he came round and asked if we wanted to go on a walk. Naturally we said yes. It was a walk and a half. By the time we arrived back at the RV, the dogs were lame and Jane (cos shes scared of heights) was a gibbering wreck. |

| After a couple of hours walking it became apparent that there was no real way out of the valley we had walked into. Liz went to look for a way out. Mike believed she had got lost. Mike fired his gun. Jane hit the deck. It was the first time either of us had heard a gun go off. It was only a pistol but it made a terrific noise. After we made it out of the valley, Mike also showed us his AK47. Amazing to think that it is legal to carry round weaponry like this. |
| Jane can laugh about her birthday now at the time it wasn't so funny. Still, Mike was great and we are very glad that we met him. Next up, Arizona and the Grand Canyon. |
