Smokey, Blinky and Cattherine's Story

"Cattherine, Blinky, and Smokey"

Jeff and I went to a local arboretum (park) on Aug. 19, 1999. I had thrown something out of value by mistake there the day before. We called the next morning and they said they found it, and to come on down and get it. Ten minutes later they called back and said they were mistaken, that they didn't have it?? A while later a very kind person that worked there called us and said that they DID have it, but someone wanted to keep it, and they didn't think it was right, and that we should come down asap, and have this "investigated"....so we did.

It turns out that it was "misplaced"...but they were fairly sure it would resurface the next day (which it did)!

As we're walking out of the office we saw this very skinny grey kitten begging to get inside. We asked a lot of questions about him, and were told they (they think there were 6 of them) were dumped there. They were **starving**, but the staff was instructed NOT to feed them! They caught 2 earlier that day, and took them to the pound. :((

"Smokey and Blinky"

They said people dump cats there and they're often killed by the big lawn mowers and equipment that they have there. They were mowing right around where "Smokey" was.

I drove home to get some carriers and food, and Jeff kept an eye on him, and tried to find the other 3. When I came back a second kitten (Blinky) appeared, and we caught them both without too much trouble. We searched for the other 2 kittens, but couldn't find them.
We left food by where we were told they were staying.

We left our phone number with the office and told them if they see them to call us, and we'll come and trap them. The next day we got a call that they caught another grey kitten. We went down and got "Cattherine".

Cattherine...our little "Peanut"

They were all covered with fleas. The vet dewormed them (with strongid) and we put Advantage on them. They were squirmy for the FIV/Felv test, but very good for everything else.

It's been 3 years (almost to the day) since we took in Sweet Baby and his Mama. He was only about 8 weeks old then. He was the first kitten we had in 20 years then. He will always be my BABY. I am so worried about how he's going to take this. He's very spoiled, and I adore him. I hope he's ok with having 2 younger brothers.

I know we were led there. I think we were supposed to get these little "monkeys". It was meant to be...
