Mahatma Gandhi understood meaning of Charakha the way entirely different from
what we practice today. Charakha had been a symbol of offering work in every
person's home. Charakha offered work to every person. Charakha ensured that every
one is employed. Charakha showed self-sufficiency.
Dandi salt march had been
a symbolic march. Mahatma Gandhi had probably 2 aims. Firstly, warn
the Government that levying taxes on bare necessary commodities is
incorrect. Secondly, he wanted to educate and organise people to
fight against inhuman acts of the Government. When he took 'salt',
he considered it as a symbol of daily necessity of every human being
irrespective of caste, religion or financial status
