Ranikot Fort

This Fort is about 90 Kms North of Hyderabad and the way leads through Kotri and the town of Sann. You have to travel 21 Kms across an uninhabited wilderness to reach Ranikot Fort. Claimed to be the largest fort in the world, its walls are about 25 Kms (15 miles) in circumference. The best way to reach Ranikot is by the camel, which is available in Sann. The track is barely jeepable. Built by two of the Talpur Mirs in the early 19th century, probably on the site of a much older fort which guarded the trade route from Thatta through the Kirthar hills to Central Asia.

The country inside the Fort is rich with greenery and streams abundant in tropical fish. Remains of petrified fossils and vegetations suggest the presence of a heavy forest in the past of the two forts within the master fort, the first is known as Kot-Miri. The second fort looks like a giant eagle's nest called Shergarh Fort (home of the lion) is roughly 15 km as the eagle flies from Balochistan.
