Bhit Shah

Bhit shah is famous as the resting-place of the great poet Saint Shah Abdul Latif Bhitai born in 1689. Born in a wealthy family in Hyderabad. Shah Latif renounced material comforts to seek a life of contemplation among the holy men or 'Pirs'.' To create the spiritual environment, which he required to write, he founded a village on a sand dune, or 'bhit' which became known as Bhit Shah. During the rest of his life he labored over poetry. Above all he sang for the rural people who flock to Bhit Shah in thousands for his Urs in May. His end came in 1752. Noor Mohammad Kalhora constructed the splendid shrine over his grave in Bhit Shah.
