Between Rohri and Sukkur on the West Bank of Indus lies the fortified Island of Bakkhur, an important strategic point for successive waves of invaders once the Indus had changed its course.
It is a limestone rock about 800 yards long 300 yards wide and 25 ft high. A fort with 2 gates one facing Sukkur the other Rohri. Its walls are from thirty to thirty five feet high, with numerous bastions, partly built of burnt bricks and, loopholes.
