Jan. 7. Sent a message of congratulation to Sind PML on Victory Day.

In a statement to the press said that he had seen the press report of the Resolutions passed by the All India Congress Committee and had proposed to summon All India Muslim League Working Committee for discussions prior to which he did not wish to express his opinion.

Jan. 8. Declared in a statement that Maungdaw did not form part of Pakistan scheme.

Jan. 12. Replying to an address of welcome by Pir Illahi Bukhsh, President/Presidency, Sind Madrasah Board Karachi, exhorted the Muslims to launch strong literacy drive. Asked them to develop the highest sense of honesty, integrity, duty, responsibility and justice. He further said that the new Muslim League Ministry has been formed which would give education its top priority.

Jan. 24. Congress called upon a meeting of the All India Muslim League Working Committee at Karachi which passed a Resolution on Cabinet Mission's Statement of 16 May 1946. Regarding Interim government. He said, "Jawahar-lal-Nehru thinks he would be the Prime Minister but if he thinks calmly he would neither be a Prime Minister nor there be Jawahar-lal-Nehru Government. He would merely be a Member for Foreign Ministry and Commonwealth. Pundit Jawahar-lal-Nehru and Congress wish to use Muslim League and Muslims Nominees as a shield.... We are neither under Jawahar-lal-Nehru nor Congress ."

Feb. 2. In a statement on Punjab the situation, called on His Majesty's Government to deal with the situation boldly, and restore civil liberties; appealed to Muslim youth to avoid communal strife.

Feb. 17. Addressed a meeting of the All India Muslim League Parliament/Parliamentary party in Sind Assembly eight-point plan for Sind discussed.

Feb. 20. Mohandas Karamchand Gandhi (Mahatma's) statement of 20 Feb. which stipulated British withdrawal from India by June 1948, and the replacement of Lord Wavell by viscount Mountbatten as Viceroy. All India Muslim League civil disobedience movement commences in North West Frontier Province .

Feb. 21. Reviewing the statement of British Prime Minister Attlee that freedom would be given to the sub-continent by June 1948, 'Mohammed Ali Jinnah (Quaid-I-Azam) said that so long as the complete report is not examined, nothing can be said. "It is a very important statement before me and League's commitment a keen observation is necessary. We would look into it deeply and then take proper step. In the evening before going to Karachi, addressed the people of Malir and said, "For the last ten years Sind is in dark. They could not form strong ministry, the countrymen had their own way to establish themselves and join Muslim League, and make their own plan for their own progress."

Feb. In his letter, wrote in brief about the Punjab government to Nawab I.H. Mamdot, "Government should lift restriction from holding public meetings and release the arrested persons." He further wrote, "I learnt that you are ready to compromise by all means. I think a graceful defeat is far better than the compromise. Because defeat compromise on principles."

Feb. In a statement at Shahi Darbar, Sibi, Baluchistan, said: "I believe our salvation lies in acting upon the principles of our Holy Prophet. Our democracy should be based on Islamic ideals and principles."

Feb. 23. Addressing a group of Muslim refugees from Bihar, declared that the Muslim League "will not yield an inch in their demand for Pakistan. It is the only way to liberate 10 crores of Muslims."

Feb. 25. Assured minorities of just treatment by the Muslim League, in an interview to API.

March 3. In a statement said, "Khizar ministry's resignation is a wise step." He appealed to the Muslim of the Punjab to remain united to settle the matter with other parties—Hindu, Sikhs and British Government.

March 4. Master Tara Singh's inflammatory speech on the steps of Punjab Legislative Assembly sparks communal riots in Lahore and elsewhere.

March 13. At a function organized by Bombay Pakistan Muslim League, said: "There is no alternative to Pakistan "

March 17. Advised Punjab PML to co-operate fully in peace efforts.

March 22. Lord Mountbatten arrived in India to be the last British Viceroy.

Pakistan Day news sent to papers. All Muslims were advised to hold the day peacefully and in view of the present unfavorable situation of India advised to cooperate with the Government.

March 27. Addressing Memon Chamber of Commerce reception he said, "Pakistan will have to be achieved not only for Muslims .... It means freedom for both Hindus and Muslims." He further said, "I am fighting for Pakistan, which means I am fighting for the freedom of India... because it is the only practical solution.... because India is neither a country nor a nation but is a score of nations.

March 28. Called for a truce on the basis of Pakistan. Said that British talked of unity of country because they knew that while there would be destruction and clashes in united India, Pakistan and Hindustan would live like two friendly neighbors.

April. 5. In his first meeting with Lord Mountbatten, asserted that there was only one solution—"a surgical operation" on India; otherwise India would perish altogether.

April 6. Along with Miss Fatima Jinnah, had dinner with Viceroy.

April 8. Lord Mountbatten on mutual understanding with 'Mohammed Ali Jinnah (Quaid-I-Azam) declared ending of sectarian enmity.

April 12. In reply to the letter of Maulana Hifzur Rahman, General . Secretary, Jamiat-e-Ulam-e-Hind, said in a press note: "In view of the new situation that has arisen by virtue of the White Paper published by the British Government on 20th Feburary 1947 and having regard to the grave issues which we have to face immediately I agree with you that complete unity among the Muslims is necessary and I ... have appealed to every Muslim to join the Muslim League."

Negotiations between Viceroy and political leaders ended. 'Mohammed Ali Jinnah (Quaid-I-Azam) proposed two methods of framing constitution: 1) two separate constitutions by separate assemblies for group A, and group B and Congress, with a decision about the center being taken later to each Province deciding its future provided fresh elections were held in the Punjab and the North West Frontier Province.

April 13. Mir Ahmad Yar Khan, The Khan of Kalat, wrote to him that Kalat was the first state from Baluchistan to publicly support the cause of Pakistan.

April 15. 'Mohammed Ali Jinnah (Quaid-I-Azam) -Mohandas Karamchand Gandhi jointly appealed for peace, on Viceroy's request.

April 17. Leaflets containing 'Mohammed Ali Jinnah (Quaid-I-Azam) and Mohandas Karamchand Gandhi (Mahatma). Appeal dropped from air all over India in a bid to control communal frenzy and violence. Withdrawal of direct action program by All India Muslim League mooted.

April 20. Denounced, in a press statement the proposed partition of Bengal and Punjab; warned the Viceroy not to commit this "grave error."

April 24. Appalled to Muslim in a statement, to maintain peace and order when the Viceroy visits North West Frontier Province to examine the situation personally.

April 26. Met Viceroy for one hour and 20 minutes on the question of acceptance of the Cabinet Mission Plan, asserted, "the leaders of Congress are so dishonest, so crooked and so obsessed with the idea of smashing Muslim League that the only way of giving Pakistan a chance is to make it an independent nation of British Common wealth."

April 28. Supported the unity of the Nile Valley and evacuation of foreign troops from Egypt, in a message to the Arab Muslim League Secretary General.

April 30. Calling on the His Majesty's Government and the Viceroy not to commit "a grave error", said in a statement that "the transfer of power to the Pakistan and Hindustan Government must mean a division of the defense forces. This is a clear-cut road and the only practical solution of India's constitutional problem."

May 1. In a press statement laid forth the fundamental principles of the partition of India; stressed upon the fact that the "states of Hindustan and Pakistan should be absolutely free, independent and sovereign."

May 5. Discussed with Mohandas Karamchand Gandhi (Mahatma) the communal problem.

May 6. His meeting with Mohandas Karamchand Gandhi (Mahatma) ended without agreement on partition of India.

May 7. Expressed, in a statement, his inability to disagree with North West Frontier Province. Muslim League decision to continue direct action movement; advised Muslims to remain peaceful.

Analyzed, in a press statement, Khan ministry's policies in North West Frontier Province; Defined Direct Action as "social pressure, strike or revolt constituting moral pressure on the authority in power to redress our grievances and meet our demands."

Along with Mohandas Karamchand Gandhi (Mahatma) condemned violence for attaining political ends.

In a statement said that he could not go against the decision of the North West Frontier Province's civil disobedience.

May 11. Criticized Patel's statement. Demanded dissolution of Interim Government and transfer of power to two Const. Assemblies.

May 12. On request of A. Hamid, Editor Eastern Times, Lahore, sent a message for the Muslims of the Punjab, urging them to unite and work hard if they wanted to achieve Pakistan.

May 21. In an interview to Reuters, explained the outlines of Pakistan; expressed Muslim League's resolve to "fight every inch" against the partition of Bengal and the Punjab; emphasized that Pakistan would be "popular: and Representative." and would seek UN membership.

May 22. Demanded a corridor between the proposed East and West Pakistan areas. Hoped for friendly relations with Hindustan after partition, in interview with Reuters correspondent.

May 24. Dr. Rajendra Prasad, on behalf of Congress refused' 'Mohammed Ali Jinnah (Quaid-I-Azam's) demand of a corridor.

June 2. Along with Liaquat Ali Khan and Abdu Rab Nishtar, on behalf of the ML, attended leaders' conference in which Congress leaders also participated. The Viceroy presided an apprised the participants of his discussions, both in England and India, which had led to the formation Congress HMG's Plan. Copies of the announcement circulated t the leaders end the Conference adjourned till next day to enable working Committees of both Congress and Muslim League to consider the Plan'

June 3. HMO's Plan stipulating partition of India announced by Mountbatten. Plan accepted by Jawahar-lal-Nehru, 'Mohammed Ali Jinnah (Quaid-I-Azam) and Baldev Singh, on behalf of Congress, Muslim League and the Sikhs, in speeches from All India Radio, New Delhi. In his speech, 'Mohammed Ali Jinnah (Quaid-I-Azam) appealed to muslim and Muslim League to carefully examine the Plan.

Presided over All India Muslim League Working Committee meeting.

At night All-India Radio relayed the speech of 'Mohammed Ali Jinnah (Quaid-I-Azam) in which-discussing the new plan of the British Government for the withdrawal of powers, he said that All India Muslim League would finalize on the lines of her own rules and ideas. .

June 5. Invited by the Viceroy to discuss the setting up of a Partition Committee.

June 6. Mohandas Karamchand Gandhi (Mahatma) sent to Viceroy certain suggestions on basis of which he (Viceroy) should ask Mohammed Ali Jinnah (Quaid-I-Azam) to agree to referendum in North West Frontier Province.

June 9-10. Presided over All India Muslim League Council meeting at Delhi in which 3 June (Mountbatten) Plan was discussed.

June 12. Lord Mountbatten, wrote to Mohandas Karamchand Gandhi (Mahatma ) informing him about Mohammed Ali Jinnah (Quaid-I-Azam) consent to visit North West Frontier Province in accordance with Mohandas Karamchand Gandhi (Mahatma)'s suggestions provided Congress did not interfere in the matter. Copy of the letter was sent to Mohammed Ali Jinnah (Quaid-I-Azam).

June 13. Again made it clear to Mohandas Karamchand Gandhi (Mahatma) about his condition that Congress should not interfere with people of the North West Frontier Province in any way.

June 14. Mohandas Karamchand Gandhi (Mahatma) wrote to Mohammed Ali Jinnah (Quaid-I-Azam) that the latter and the Viceroy could not clearly understand him and that he could not ask Congress to commit hara-kiri.

June 17. Thanked Muslims of tribal areas for their good wishes, in a statement. Gave option to Indian states either to join Hindustan Const. Assembly or Pakistan Constitution Assembly.

June 18. Khan Abdul Ghaffar Khan called on Mohammed Ali Jinnah (Quaid-I-Azam's) residence and set some conditions for merging-North West Frontier Province into Pakistan to which 'Mohammed Ali Jinnah (Quaid-I-Azam) could not agree. Afterwards in a public meeting at Bannu, Khan Abdul Ghaffar Khan said that he would make "Pakhtoonistan" for Pathans.

June 19. Decided that Karachi would be the capital of the state of Pakistan.

In a message to the muslims of Madras, said, "I am really very proud of the muslim of Madras Province. who stood as one man behind the All India Muslim League ." Also issued a statement regarding " Mopalistan " .

June 20. In a message to the Muslim National Guards of Bombay Province, characterized them as "soldiers of Islam."

June 22. Malik Mohammed, Representative of state Muslim League Travancore met with Mohammed Ali Jinnah (Quaid-I-Azam)

June 25. In a press statement, appealed to the Shahi Jirga, Baluchistan and non-official members of Quetta Municipality to vote for Pakistan Const. Assembly in referendum which was to be held on 30 June.

In a speech said that muslims freedom was based on unity, faith and discipline and he firmly believed in it.

June 26. In a press statement, appealed to muslims of Sylhet to vote for joining Sylhet District with new Eastern Bengal as it would not only strengthen the East Pakistan but would also be in their welfare.

June 28. I issued a statement to press: "Having accepted 3 June Plan, North West Frontier Province Congress reservation for Pathanistan is tantamount of breaking a promise."

July 2. Informed Viceroy that for certain reasons he had decided to assume the Governer-Generalship of Pakistan himself.

July 5. Viceroy received a letter from Liaquat Ali Khan, All India Muslim League 's General Secretary, recommending, on behalf of All India Muslim League, the appointment of 'Mohammed Ali Jinnah (Quaid-I-Azam) as the Governor General of Pakistan, and requesting His Majesty's Government to accord approval to this proposal.

July 7. In reply to London Muslim League's invitation for a dinner to celebrate achievement of Pakistan, declined the offer by telegram saying; "there remains the far greater task of constructing and building up Pakistan which will require every ounce of our energy, but by the Grace of God we shall build up this new greatest muslim sovereign State in the world with complete unity, discipline and faith."

July 10. British Prime Minister Clement Attlee declared his acceptance of "'Mohammed Ali Jinnah (Quaid-I-Azam) as the first Governor General of Pakistan."

July 11. After meeting with Kashmiri muslim leaders, issued a press statement asking for release of Kashmir detainees.

July 13. In an address to a press Conference, in the morning, declared that the security of the minorities is in Indo-Pak friendship.

July 14. Assured minorities, in a press Conference, at New Delhi, that their religion, faith, life, property and culture would be protected in Pakistan.

July 15. Under his direction, a train carrying a number of Pakistan Government officials and a unit of CPWD left New Delhi for Karachi.

July 26. Formation of Pakistan Const. Assembly. In a press statement, took strong exception to Dutch Government's declaration of war against Indonesia ; expressed deep sympathies with the people of Indonesia.

Dr. Shahryar of Indonesia met him in the evening. 'Mohammed Ali Jinnah (Quaid-I-Azam) issued a press statement deploring the sudden attack of Holland force on the Indonesian people; expressed deep sympathy with the people of Indonesia; assured full support of Indo-Pak muslims to Dr. Shahryar.

July 28. Said, in a press statement, that Punjab and Bengal Assembly parties were free to elect their leaders on their own; he had no personal preference in the matter.

July 30. Said, in a press statement, that Indian States were free to join either of the two Dominions.

In a press statement, appealed to different races of the North West Frontier Province and tribal areas to forget all the differences of the past and to participate untidily with the Government of Pakistan for the establishment of a real and democratic Islamic world.

July 31. Said, in a press statement, that Muslim League Assembly Party in Sind was free to choose its leader.

Pirzada Abdus Sattar met him. In a press statement 'Mohammed Ali Jinnah (Quaid-I-Azam) said, "I do not support any leader of Sind. Members are at liberty to vote."

July. Had a detailed discussion with the Maharajas of Jodhpur and Jaisalmar, because their Bikaner States coincided with the Pakistan border. He offered a plain paper to Maharaja Jodhpur duly signed for setting up any agreement regarding the fixation of the border.

Aug. 5. Viceroy intimated him, Sardar Patel and Liaquat Ali Khan, about the Sikhs' plan to create hindrances.

Aug. 7. On the eve of his departure from New Delhi to Karachi, thanked all those who had sent their greetings and good wishes on the establishment of Pakistan. Also said: "The past must be buried and let us start as two independent sovereign states of Hindustan and Pakistan. I wish Hindustan prosperity and peace."
 
 

Aug. 9. Speaking at dinner given by Ghulam Husain Hidayatullah at Karachi, said that he was no believer in "making the rich richer and the poor poorer", and exhorted audience to "make earnest effort to promote the interests of the masses without necessarily disturbing the equilibrium in the bargain." Paid tributes to Fatima Jinnah whom he described as "constant source of help and encouragement" to him.

Receiving congratulation from Balochi tribes, he, in his message, assured them to retain their law and social customs.

Aug. 11. Elected Pres. to Const. Assembly of Pakistan. In his first policy speech, provided guidelines for the new State of Pakistan.

Also conducted business of the House.

Aug. 12. On Liaquat Ali Khan's motion, the Const. Assembly of Pakistan passed following Resolution (s). Conferring title of "Quaid-i-Azam" on him: "That this Assembly resolves that 'Mohammed Ali Jinnah (Quaid-I-Azam), President/Presidency of the Const. Assembly of Pakistan and Governor General designate of Pakistan, be addressed as 'Mohammed Ali Jinnah (Quaid-I-Azam) Governor General of Pakistan' in all official Acts, documents, letters and correspondence from Aug. 15, 1947." The session was chaired by 'Mohammed Ali Jinnah (Quaid-I-Azam) himself.

Aug. 13. Delivered speech at the banquet in honor of Lord Mountbatten, at Governor General House, Karachi. Regarding transfer of power by the British, he said: "Such voluntary transfer of power and rule by one nation over others is unknown in the whole history of the world."

Aug. 14. Lord Mountbatten, the last Governor General of India, paid tributes to him in his address to Const. Assembly,and conveyed His Majesty's good wishes for the progress and prosperity of Pakistan. In response, 'Mohammed Ali Jinnah (Quaid-I-Azam) paid tributes to Mountbatten and assured him of Pakistan's good will and friendship for the British nation.

Aug. 15. Sworn in as Governor General of Pakistan. Appointed first Council of Ministers consisting of seven Ministers. Appointed Liaquat Ali Khan as Prime Minister of Pakistan. Inaugurating Pakistan Broadcasting Service, called upon Pakistanis to remain united and build up the new state.

Pakistan's first Government Gazette published naming 'Mohammed Ali Jinnah (Quaid-I-Azam) as the first Governor General of Pakistan.

Aug. 17. Referring to the riots and D-Day, drew attention to Calcutta and said: "The riots are the outcome of the Viceroy's and Jawahar-lal-Nehru's policies. The Hindu think that the Hindu Raj was established and so they openly disgraced the muslim and killed them. I can say firmly that this Hindu Government is not in favor of muslim, there is no alternative to Pakistan for the muslim ."

Aug. 18. In Eid-ul-Fitr message to nation, hoped that the Eid would usher in a new era of prosperity and would mark the onward march of renaissance of Islamic culture and ideals; adding, "Those of our brethren who are minorities in Hindustan may rest assured that we shall never neglect or forget them. Our hearts go out to them, and we shall consider no efforts too great to help them, and secure their well-being, for I recognize that it is the muslim minority Province in this sub-continent who were pioneers and carried the banner aloft for the achievement of our cherished goal of Pakistan."

Aug. 21. After the establishment of Pakistan on 14 Aug. 1947, Dr. Khan Sahib set up his ministry. 'Mohammed Ali Jinnah (Quaid-I-Azam) as Governor General dissolved the ministry on 21 Aug. Then Dr. Khan's Pakhtoonistan movement gradually grew stronger.

Aug. 24. In a statement said, "I ...call upon every muslim, man and woman, in Pakistan to fortify themselves against their present sorrows for the establishment of their nation state for which they have already suffered and sacrificed so much, and which it is now for them to build up, so that before long it can justify its position as the largest Islamic State in the world and win a proud place in the family of nations."

In a press statement, expressed conern over heavy toll of muslims life in Eastern Punjab and other areas of Hindustan: asked Pakistanis to maintain Peace and Order.

Aug. 25. Given civic reception by Karachi Municipal Corporation. Replying to the welcome address, said: "It should be our aim not only to remove want and fear of all types, but secure liberty, fraternity and equality as enjoined upon us by Islam."

Aug. 28. Arrived at Lahore for participating in a conference of the Governor General's and PMs of India and Pakistan to discuss communal situation in the Punjab.

Aug. 31. In a broadcast from Radio Pakistan, Lahore, spoke about the refugees, the Boundary Commission Award, and the minorities. Emphasizing the need for maintaining law and order situation at all costs, said that "the Boundary Award may be unjust but it is binding on us."

Sept. 12. Appealed to the nation to contribute to "Quaid-i-Azam's Relief Fund"; emphasized spirit of sacrifice for others.

Sept. 15. In a statement expressed concern on miserable condition of muslim in India.

Sept. 17. Replied to Nawabzada Khalifa Khan Malik's message received on behalf of Afridis of Khyber Agencies, offering services to help save lives of muslim in Hindustan. Advised them not to act in a spirit of revenge as such efforts would not be useful.

Sept. 26. Laid foundation stone of Valika Textile Mills Ltd. Speaking on the occasion, said: "If Pakistan is to play its proper role in the world to which its size, manpower and resources entitle it, it must develop industrial potential side by side with is agriculture and give its economy an industrial bias."
 
 

Oct. 1. Notified appointment of Sir Francis Mudie, Governor of Punjab, as Vice Chancellor of University of the Punjab, with effect from 15 Aug. 1947.

Oct. 11. Addressed a joint meeting of Civil, Military, Naval and Air Force officers at Karachi; said that establishment of Pakistan was a means to an end: "The idea was that we should have a State in which we could live and breathe as free men, which we could develop according to our own lights and culture and where principles of Islamic social justice could find free play." To attain this goal, he called upon them to "follow the path of 'unity, discipline and faith'." Also spoke about muslims who were left in India.

Oct. 22. Issued Banking Companies (Pakistan) Ordinance, 1947, for providing temporary relief to banking companies in Pakistan.

Oct. 24. Issued Eid-ul-Azha message: "The greater the sacrifice we are made to undergo the purer and more chastened shall we emerge like gold from fire."

Oct. 25. In an interview with Duncan Hooper, Reuters correspondent, spoke on efforts to restore peace and maintain law and order in India and Pakistan; said that there was no possibility of union between the two states; termed minorities in Pakistan as equal citizens; explained functions of Muslim League.

Oct. 26. In a telegram replied to Indian Prime Minister , Jawahar-lal-Nehru's telegram of 15 Oct., refuting Indian Government's charges, and clarified Pakistan Government's stand on Kashmir.

Issued Indian Aircraft Act (1934) (Amendment) Order, 1947.

Oct. 27. When Maharaja of Kashmir declared the merger of Kashmir with India, Mohammed Ali Jinn (Quaid-I-Azam) invited Lord Mountbatten and Jawahar-lal-Nehru to Pakistan to solve the problem.

Oct. 30. Addressing a mammoth public meeting at University of the Punjab Stadium, Lahore, emphasized the spirit of sacrifice in order to help refugees. Advising Pakistanis to face difficult times with determination, said; "Do not be overwhelmed by the enormity of the task.... You are made of sterling material and are second to none. Why should you also not succeed like many others, like your forefathers. You have only to develop the spirit of the 'Mujahids'.... Live up to your traditions and add to it another chapter of glory."

In a broadcast speech, called upon people of Pakistan to "reconstruct and regenerate our great nation."

Oct. 31. In a meeting with a deputation of Action Committee of Punjab Muslim Students Federation, at Lahore, advised them to equip themselves sufficiently in discipline, education and training for the future.

Nov. 1. Discussed the Kashmir issue with Lord Mountbatten, at Lahore.

Nov. 2. Issued Pakistan National Guard Ordinance, 1947, in order to enable formation of a National Guard on voluntary basis under control of C-in-C, Pakistan Army.

Made an amendment in Indian Aircraft Act, 1934.

On Mohammad Ali Jinnah (Quaid-I-Azam)'s invitation for discussion Jawahar-lal-Nehru due to his ill health, was unable to come to Lahore. So he declared at Delhi that as soon as the condition of Kashmir cools down and peace prevails, a referendum would be called under international guidance.

Nov. About military interference in Hyderabad State he said, "If India tries to merge Hyderabad (Deccan) into India by means of power, international opinion would go against her." He said, "in this situation he would help Hyderabad by all means and would try to make a stable relationship with India."

Nov. 7. Issued Riot and Civil Commotion Risks Insurance Ordinance. 1947, to provide for the insurance of certain property against riot and civil commotion risks.

Nov. 22. In a message welcomed British officers who volunteered to serve Pakistan Armed Forces after Pakistan's independence.

Nov. 27. In a message to All Pakistan Education Conference at Karachi, said: ."... if we are to make any real, speedy and substantial progress, we must earnestly tackle this question and bring our educational policy and program on the lines suited to the genius of our people, consonant with our history and culture, and having regard to the modern conditions and vast developments that have taken place all over the world."

Dec. 1. With his and Mountbatten's signatures, was issued Joint Defense Council (Amendment) Order, 1947, in order to distribute military equipment and stores between Pakistan and India.

Dec. 3. Accepted credentials presented by Sardar Najibullah Khan, Special Representative., of His Majesty the King of Afghanistan. Speaking on the occasion, said: "The Government and people of Pakistan entertain nothing but feelings of warmest friendship towards the muslim Kingdom of Afghanistan which is our closest neighbor and with whom for many centuries and for many generations the people of Pakistan have had countless religious, cultural and socialties."

Dec. 6. Approved ports of Karachi and Chittagong as ports of registry and appointed principal officers for the purpose.

Dec. 8. In a letter to Harry S.Truman, U.S. President/Presidency, protested against U. N. decision to enforce partition of Palestine.

Dec. 10. Issued Transfer of Property (Pakistan) Ordinance, 1947, to provide for payment of taxes before the recognition of transfer of property. Issued Pakistan (Adoption of Income Tax Profits Tax and Revenue Recovery Acts) Order, 1947.

Dec. 11. In a statement said, "Remember struggle has not ended, rather it has started now. If we want success we will have to work hard. This is the time to work. It needs selfless duties, service. God has bestowed upon us the title of the builders of a new nation. Let us prove worthy of it."

Dec.14- 15. Presided over last meeting of Muslim League Council at Karachi, in camera, in which it was decided to split All India Muslim League into two independent and separate bodies: one for India and the other for Pakistan. The meeting passed Resolution (s) paying tributes to him for achieving Pakistan—the largest Islamic state in the world.

Dec. 15. Issued Pakistan Banking (Prevention of default and evasion of liabilities) Ordinance, 1947, to prevent people in Pakistan from loss, due to withholding of payments on cheques and delivery of things held in custody by banks acting under directions of a Government or authority outside Pakistan.

Dec.18. Issued the Pakistan Province. Legislatures (Disqualification of membership) Order, 1947.

Dec. 19. In an interview to BBC correspondent Robert Steinson, spoke on relations between Great Britain and Pakistan, Kashmir, future of Muslim League in Pakistan, Palestine, and on relations with U. S. A.

Issued Indian Independence (Special Tribunals) Order, 1947.

Dec. 20. Issued Pakistan Red Cross Society Order, 1947.

Dec. 22. Sent message to Pakistan Boy Scouts. Issued Baluchistan Disturbed Areas Regulation, 1947, to make better provision for suppression of disorder and disturbed areas of Baluchistan; also issued, in this connection, Baluchistan Disturbed Areas (Special Powers of Armed Force) Regulation, 1947, to confer certain special powers on armed forces officers.

Dec. 23. Issued Pakistan (Joint Registration of Accountants Provision) Order. 1947.

Dec. 24. Speaking on friendly relations between Pakistan and Transjordan, expressed Pakistan's deep sense of attachment to the holy places of Islam.

Dec. 27. Appointed Muhammad Zafrullah Khan as Minister for Foreign Affairs and Commonwealth Relations.

Dec. 28. Replying to welcome address by Divisional Superintendent and officers of North-Western Railways, emphasized need for "faith, unity and discipline."

Dec. 30. Appointed Pirzada Abdus Sattar as Federation/Federal Minister for Food, Agriculture and Health.
