Monday 17th July, 2006, 15:02 GMT
The conference schedule, including a list of guest speakers and sessions, for this year's Edinburgh Interactive Entertainment Festival (EIEF) has been confirmed today by the content committee. Spanning across two days, the EIEF will cover a variety of topics including Machinima, censorship and the use of games as medicine. The keynote speaker on Monday August 21, will be David Garner, executive vice president and chief operating officer of Electronic Arts, who will be discussing the challenges of the next generation. Also on Monday will be a session on Public Service Programming by Ofcom, the regulator for TV, radio, telecoms and wireless communications, a session on Games That Heal by Ben Sawyer, from Serious Games, and So You Think You Know Games? by Nick Parker, an industry analyst from Parker Consulting. In addition, a mobile games tournament will be held. Tuesday August 22, will offer a session by Margaret Robertson, Editor of Edge magazine, on whether or not games can be considered art, a showcase of the most innovative methods of bringing education into games, and live performances of machinima and video game music. The conference begins at the Royal College of Physicians on August 21, and includes the presentation of the Edge Award. The event continues at the Odeon, Lothian Road on August 22, and will also offer members of the public a chance to meet the creators of several leading video games. Chris Deering, chairman of EIEF06, said: "Now in its fourth year, EIEF has always broken new ground by looking at the culture and impact of games. Unlike other conferences that examine the technologies or unravel business methodologies, EIEF explores the intangible, indefinable and unquantifiable. "It seeks to understand not the now but the future. What this means in real terms is a schedule filled to the brim with passionate speakers who are not afraid to go out on a very small ledge to take a leap of faith in front of a discerning and often critical audience." published at Instock Magazine - here |
