Gaming, In My Opinion
As my gaming experience has grown, I’ve found that I’ve become quite cynical, even skeptical of my favourite games. After all, video games is a medium unrestricted by the public’s need for ‘realism’, so there are more than a few things that just don’t make sense. Often these things can be highly amusing, so I feel no guilt in being a skeptic – I’ve played hard and long to get to this level where I am able to pick holes at the games that bring me such joy. Things like the Nintendo Rule of Three, that dictates that virtually all bosses are to be killed after a third hit (or after multiples of three hits). I’m allowed to laugh at this, to identify the conventions that games have forced on themselves because I have played games long enough.
It’s simple mathematics. Gaming + Time = Experience. Experience + More Time = Cynicism. Cynicism + Love of writing = Satire. For the most part, Miscellany contains the satirical articles that I’ve put together simply because I have that much spare time on my hands.
