News: DS Lite sells big
Monday 10th July, 2006, 13:14 GMT
The DS Lite continues to dominate the market. Enterbrain, publishers of Japan's Famitsu magazine, has released sales statistics for the first half of this year (specifically December 26, 2005 to June 25, 2006).
- The top three spots for hardware sales were held by handheld consoles. The DS Lite came in first, followed by the standard DS and, in third, the PSP.
- The sales for the two DS variations together came to 3.9 million units, easily exceeding the 1 million units of PSP.
- Thanks to these DS sales, game hardware sales passed 101.9 billion yen, which, when compared to the same period last year, shows a 39.4% increase.
- Similarly, the home console market has improved on the previous year by 33.6%, with combined software and hardware sales topping 276.8 billion yen.
DS Lite sales are continuing to rise since the release of this report. Nintendo aim to ship 10 million units in a couple of months, so the second half of the year may prove to be just as impressive.
