Banking And Finance
The official currency is the Jamaican
Dollar, but US Dollars are widely used. Generally banks are open Monday
� Thursday 9:30 a.m. � 2:00 p.m. and close at 4:00p.m. on Fridays.
Credit Cards, Debit Cards, and Travelers Cheques are widely used. Personal
cheques may be accepted with valid ID.

Customs
and Immigration
US citizen can enter Jamaica on a valid
passport/ID. Commonwealth citizens are welcome without any special
requirements although visas should be obtained. For further information
please contact your local Jamaican Embassy or the Tourist Board office.
Dress
Being a tropical island, light weight
cotton clothing is ideal. Shorts and swim wear are perfect for the beach a
. Depending on where on the island you go the evenings can get chilly.
Diving
Diving in Jamaica can be a very rewarding
experience. Much of the coastline is surrounded by reefs, undersea life is
abundant.
Driving
We drive on the left. All other road
rules applied. Distances are measured in kilometers and gasoline is sold
in liters.
Electricity
Jamaica is served by the Jamaica Public
Service and a few small private electricity providers. The voltage/cycle
requirements are 110volts/50 cycle. Most major hotels have 220 outlets
available.

Fishing tours are available. Most hotels
can help make the arrangements. The best fishing is on the north.east
coast, near Portland.

Taxes
There is a government imposed sales tax
of 15% on purchases. This is known as the General Consumption Tax (GCT).
Most hotels add a 10 � 15% service charge. Tipping is not required, but
recommended at your discretion.

There are a number of taxi services
available in Jamaica. The industry is not well regulated so beware. Most
taxis are not metered, so agree on the fare at the start of the journey.

Jamaica falls in EST time. Does not
observe daylight saving time.
