| 5th Dark World Castle: Ice Dungeon |
| Choices Nintendo says to do the Ice Dungeon before Misery Mire. I, however, like to use the Cane of Somaria in Ice Dungeon; seeing as that tool is found in Misery Mire, this means I have to do these two castles out of order. If you want to follow this walk-through, go ahead to Misery Mire. Getting into the Dungeon Warp to Light World and soar to Lake Hylia (#8). If you haven't gotten the Ice Rod yet, this is an ideal opportunity. Also, Piece of Heart #17 is in this area. Swim to the island in the center of the lake and pick up the stone covering the warping tile. Head inside once you're back in Dark World. Getting the Big Key The Fire Rod and Hookshot are invaluable in this dungeon. Hit the icy-statue on the left wall with your Fire Rod, then head west. Kill the baddies in the second room for a key, then proceed downstairs. Step on the switch in the southwestern corner to open the door. Push the center block east and go through the southern door. The Hookshot will kill the green ducks with one blow, so keep it handy. Get rid of all of them to receive the Compass. Back in the cross-shaped room, push the block north and head east. Step on the switch under the southern pot to go back into the cross-shaped room. Now push the block west and go north. Put a bomb on the switch while it's blue and go to the northern half of the room before it detonates. Now put a bomb on the crack in the floor and jump down the resultant hole. In here, stun the Stalfoes with your sword, then set a bomb in his lap. Once they are both dead, you can pass through the door. The next room is a little tricky: the conveyor belt floor changes directions every now and then and black monsters run north and south through the room. Watch out for the spikes and baddies. Make sure the switch on the western side of the room is pink before going through the door. Head to the southwestern pot, hit the switch under it, then go out the door. Go downstairs. Now it's Hookshot target practice. Kill all the green ducks to proceed. Watch out for the spiky ball in the second cross-shaped room -- go through the northern door. In here, just drop when the floor falls out from under you. Go in the door to the east. Hookshot over the hole and go south. Dash attack straight south into the wall, then run for the northwestern door. Hookshot to the pot and go upstairs. Fight the Stalfoe and lift the big rock for a Moon Pearl-negator and a key. Hit the other two gophers for another Stalfoe. Pull the statue's tongue and step on the switch under the southwestern pot for a map, then go through the eastern door. Head upstairs and grab the Big Key. Getting the Blue Mail Go back downstairs, then pull this statue's tongue to re-open the door. Go back downstairs, step on the switch under the pot, then Hookshot over to the chest. Open the door on the western wall. Head straight west through the second cross-shaped room and go downstairs. Place a bomb on the floor just north of the ladder, then jump down the hole you created. The big chest north of you contains the Blue Mail. To the Boss Push the blocks aside and go east, then kill the icy statue with your Fire Rod. This is the part where this castle gets tricky for those of you who have not yet completed Misery Mire (or at least gotten the Cane of Somaria). You must find another key, hit a switch to lower the blue pegs, then push the correct block down the hole for use in a later dungeon. If you're following this walk-through's order, now go through the northern door. Watch out for the Stalfoe and go downstairs (If you manage to lower the blue pegs, you can jump down the holes in the room with the stalfoe to land in a fairy fountain). Go through the southern door. Kill all the baddies, then put a block from your Cane of Somaria on the switch under the pot to hold it down. Now go south. The eastern block has baddies under it -- be forewarned. Lift up the southwestern block to reveal a hole. Jump down for a fight with Kholdstare. The Boss of Ice Dungeon: Kholdstare This guy isn't too hard. The biggest challenge is the hail falling from the ceiling. This wouldn't be a big deal, only it drops on top of you, then splits into four smaller balls. Just keep moving at all times and don't back track, and you'll be fine. Hit the huge block of ice with your Fire Rod eight times and it will melt. Now three cloud-eyeball things will emerge and start wafting around the room. Smack them around with your sword until you have killed them all. |
